Festival Centre Construction Underway

Posted by Johnny Vong / February 3, 2007

festival_centre_2007.jpgIt's official. The much hyped, much talked about building project in the city has just started construction. The $129-million Festival Centre, conveniently located at the corner of King and John, will be according to Piers Handling, "a state-of-the-art structure filled with filmmakers, cinephiles, children, educators, arts enthusiasts, international tourists, and the best programming in the world".

And you know, this is really exciting and all, but what really made my day... was hearing about the recent "semi-official" announcement of the other Ivan Reitman project — you know what I'm talking about — Ghostbusters 3! So now the race is on, which one will be completed first? Festival Centre or Ghostbuster 3?

Aykroyd's been pimping that Ghostbusters 3 line for years. The ironic thing being that now that every other '80s blockbuster is being revisited for a needless latter-day sequel (Rocky, Rambo, Indy, Mad Max, Die Hard, etc., etc.), Ghostbusters 3 might finally see the light of day.

Hard to imagine four middle-aged guys zapping specters with proton-paks. It's kind of young-man's profession, don't you think? But with the rumour stating the thing will be done in CGI might be more of an update on the cartoon show (which was pretty good in its own right) than the two live-actioners.

Ghostbusters 3? Sweeeeeet! I think Reitman should let his son (the director of the fantastic Thank You for Smoking) get in on this one, it could be a classic.
