This TTC map is actually a thousand dollar handbag

Posted by Natalia Manzocco / August 9, 2014

ttc bagJimmy Choo has just opened its first-ever Toronto store in Yorkdale as part of the shopping centre's 300,000 square foot expansion. To celebrate, the brand, made synonymous with turn-of-the-millennium luxury by one Carrie Bradshaw, has put its own spin on that most upscale and exclusive of Toronto icons. Of course, I'm talking about the TTC.

A revamped Toronto subway map - with all of the station names swapped for different models of Choo shoes and bags - graces the side of the limited-edition bag, which is now available exclusively at the new store for a very Jimmy Choo-like $1095. Staff at the Choo store report that of the limited run of 20, 12 bags are currently left. Who snagged one of these crazy things? (Beckermans, was that you?) Whimsical dressers of Toronto, I implore you: Please show up to Fashion Week this fall with an Anu Raina subway dress, this bag, and a Parkdale hat. You will be a hero.

Tacky. They might as well have emblazoned the Ford Bros. on the side of their bags. The TTC and the Ford Bros. are not iconic in a world class kind of way.

I get the appeal to potential purchasers. Anyone considering buying this bag would most likely have never been on the TTC in quite some time, so its the novelty aspect of it.

I see no SRT inclusion. Eff you Jimmy Choo.

I wish more people had a sense of pride about the TTC. Yes its far from perfect , but it is hardly an aweful system. Consider the sheer size of the TTC and how it must move over a million people daily. And do it on time and safely. Out of the thousands of kilometers traveled every day how often do serious accidents occur ? The subways last major accident involving passengers occurred in 1995. The TTC manages to moves this city 24 hours a day. (Something very few of any other Canadian or American cities do) And this is accomplished despite the lowest funding ratio amung transit agrncys in North America, and with equipment built and still operational from the 50's using some vehicals that are over 30 years old. So give them a bit of a break. I think we get pretty damn good service from our TTC and it is ours we own it as Toronto Taxpayers. We should be proud of what our forefathers built and we should make future generations proud by maintaining and expanding our system. The TTC is part of Toronto as much as the lake is or the soil our city was built on. Stop trashing it because its the thing to do. Its baseless.

I wish more people had a sense of pride about Toronto, period. You'd think half of them were trapped here against their will.

Hilarious that they'd emblazon this on something that the average ttc rider can't even afford. Glad to know we're now trendy accessories for the wealthy.

We love Toronto like crazy but not stupid.... TO spend that ridiculous amount of money on JC bag with TTC MAP.. That is just so convenient to DESIGN a bag tribute to Toronto.

Sounds like Leona has a bad case of the mean green envies. She lives in Saskabush and has a recyclable/reusable hemp grocery tote bag with a diesel city bus on it. It cost her 25 cents at her local Sally Ann, and she proudly tells that fact to anyone who is within earshot. She is at her coolest in January standing in a pee-scented bus shelter when it is -40c out. She reads BlogTO because BlogSaskabush only has one article: a scintillating account of a moose chasing a dog near the city dump.

Hang in there, Leona, cuz you're Special! :)

I think its is sorta ibtresting tbh. Nobody who rides tge ttc can or would buy one ( exclude rosedale station), but is is a bit iconic. Wait till he dies, it will be worth a handfull of ttc tokens

The TTC is nothing to be proud of. I'm sorry, but on an international scale, it's a joke. Travel to real world cities and see how expansive, complex and efficient the trains are. I'm currently in France and jeeze, the system along the coastal cities puts Toronto to shame. Give your heads a god damne shake. Thanks.

Did you ever think about just staying there? Forever?

Looks like after the local designer Anu Raina (www.anuraina.com) showcased her TTC/Toronto inspired prints at the WMCFW in Toronto, every one is making Toronto subway design now....check out the original designs on her website
