NEWS

Canadian-born designers Calla Haynes and Thomas Tait were announced last week as nominees for the prestigious ANDAM Fashion Award. With a prize valued at 230,000 euros, the French award will be presented on July 5 by a 24-member jury made up of industry reps from Christian Dior, Pierre BergĂŠ-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, Colette, Opening Ceremony, and Style.com. Past winners have included Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh and Jeremy Scott.

Top Shop comes to Toronto... again! HBC recently announced plans to expand their shop-within-a-shop concepts in both Vancouver and on Toronto's Queen Street with the Toronto store moving into a much larger 19,000-square-foot space. Plans to stock some of the edgier pieces of the collection are also being discussed. Here's hoping for some Top Shop Unique!

Online realtor Dealuxe announced they are rebranding and changing their name to eLuxe. The move comes in wake of a successful first year in business, and what seems to be a focus on e-commerce as one of Canada's top online shopping destinations rather than the former appeal of 'deal' shopping sites. Founder and CEO Joanna Track remarked "Going forward, it's all about the power of e..."

Local indie fashion mag Worn Fashion Journal released their first ever behind-the-scenes video for their issue 14 cover shoot and editorial. The black and white video was inspired by horror film guru Ed Wood Jr., and shot on location at the Gladstone Hotel.

EVENTS/PARTIES

H&M is hosting a grand re-opening of their Yorkdale Mall location on May 17th. The first 300 customers will receive up to $300 off their purchase and there will be tons of other giveaways and shopping incentives throughout the night.

On May 23rd, Joe Fresh and FLARE magazine are pairing up to throw a bash in honour of the season finale of serial drama "Revenge." I'm not really sure what the connection is between the magazine, Joe Fresh and the show, but the promise of gift bags, cocktails, a free screening and shopping incentives are sure to fill the Queen West flagship at the corner of Queen and Portland.

OPENINGS/SALES

Two weeks ago, new Dundas West fashion spot Life of Manek quietly opened at 1504 Dundas Street West. Carrying a mixture of new and vintage women's clothing and accessories, look out for coveted printed pieces from We Are Handsome.

Toronto-made Clothing Brand Experiment is teaming up with ESP Gallery this month for a collection of limited edition t-shirts. Only 30 shirts will be available from artists such as sculptor Susy Oliveira and illustrator Nik Dudukovic. More artist collaborations are expected to arrive over the next few months. Check them out at 1086 1/2 Queen Street West.
