I actually did this for my blog and it was tough.
BTW - I think it's funny that Emily and Matthew are basically wearing the same shoes.
Oh and blue shades Drew? No thanks.
p.s. Weather in Milan dips to a meagre -5 Celsius in winter. If our winters were that mild I bet a lot more people would be willing to sacrifice style for warmth.
Refreshing to see some dudes who aren't wearing skinny jeans.
if you take a look at sweden, russia, finland... (scandinavian countries), you'll find that they have their unique style which most would agree is fashionable. people in toronto are lazy (fleece...). they're cheap (there's no market for international designers in toronto). they have no axis of comparison (when everyone dresses like a bum, so can you).
i doubt canadians will consider how black absorbs heat as a factor in their color choice rather than just blindly choosing black as it goes "mediocre" with everything else they have.
Can you show me pictures of these stylish Swedes and Russians wearing their technicolour dreamcoats in January?
At least I'm happy to see some adults for once. If anything BlogTO should just start taking their pics indoors.
How do you know Emilie's fiance is a man?
agree with badbhoy and mn re: nice to see some people more than two years out of high school.
theo, please choose some upscale malls so we don't have to suffer the goodwill and value village crowds again.
and since when does milan get winters where they have to shovel and plow shitloads of snow? i don't think the average milanese or scandinavian wears uber fashionable clothes in winter.
Re: black/brown coat problem ... Many super-warm coats are often pricier, which means people tend to invest in a more practical colour that might not offend them a few years down the road. A lot of people also only have one coat for a set of weather conditions, and want something they can wear with everything.
Black/brown is just easier to sell -- it's not so much that more people like them, but they're less offensive to the most people. A person is more likely to have specific preferences when it comes to shades of red or blue than black or brown.
Still, I know what you all mean. I don't like wearing a black coat all the time; it's depressing. When I do buy a black coat, I choose it for cut and style and unique features, so it's a bit more jazzed up.
I wish stores sold other neutrals more often -- like light/dark grey or navy. I'm not even asking for actual colours like plaids or deep purple.
@lily: You are so correct a how expensive the clothes are in Canada with little sales. All those american-owned boxstores you see town after town don't give us much choice. I sure miss Eaton's.
But I agree, its totally out of laziness. ...ok, I'm inspired by this post - going shopping for some stylish winter accessories.
I guess for all our black/brown/gray coats we should accessorize with colour more?
More Yonge and Eglinton or Eaton Centre PLEASE!
