Honest Ed's Closed (According to Stussy)

Posted by Tim / April 13, 2009

Stussy T-ShirtsInternational streetwear brand Stussy has been selling merch on Richmond Street for a year now. To celebrate the milestone they've created two commemorative t-shirts with designs that pay homage to, in their words, "the landmark schemes of music retailer Sam The Record Man and Honest Ed's, both of which are now defunct".
Stussy TorontoCome again? We know Stussy knows LA better than the Tdot, but someone (and I guess that's me) needs to give them a bit of a local history lesson that just because Honest Ed himself passed away in 2007, doesn't mean the iconic retailer has ceased operations.

Update: Oops. I goofed. Looks like the source of the error wasn't Stussy but in fact a writer at Hypebeast. Thanks to Miro for the correction.

Facts? FACTS?! We don't need no steenking facts! Aw, who cares what "L.A. Ruano" says on his blog -- IF -- that is his/her/its real name.

If you bother reading the source (Matt George's blog) http://tequiero.nimnim.net/mattgeorge/2009/04/09/stussy-toronto-1-year-aniversary/ You'll see that the 'defunct' slip up is Hypebeast's error and has nothing to do with anything Stussy was saying. Making this story... pointless.

Yes, ugly, ugly T-shirts. What the heck is a Stussy anyhow? Just another brand that screens stuff onto fruit of the loom shirts and charges $40 becuase they are from L.A.? Haha well at least its cool two Toronto icons are getting a little attention.

Either you were born within the last 20 years or you've been living under a rock. Search 'Stussy' to get the lowdown on the originator (Shawn Stussy) of streetwear fashion.

Perhaps the article slant should've played down the hypebeast error that seems to be getting people worked up and let it be more an aside. The real story here is we Torontonians love our attention and when a respected urban label comes out with a couple of items presenting tongue-in-cheek references to beloved staples of the city, it's enough to make ya feel a little more worldly right here at home.

While recognizing the importance of not simply erasing mistakes made by the media, perhaps the correction should have included a change to the title so as to not perpetuate the incorrect accusation towards Stussy in RSS feeds, etc.

Is the title one way of letting us read your post? Well, I guess this is a good post and I guess the t-shirt is cool too.

Agreed - very ugly T-Shirts. Barely a person outside the GTA is even going to comprehend what it's all about. Stu(ssy)-stu(ssy)- stupid!!!
