Yoga Line Lululemon Drops Its Drawers

Posted by Sookie / January 24, 2007

240107_bikramyoga.jpgAccording to (blogTO contributor) Anita Clarke's website I want - I got, and mass emails quickly circulating around the city, Lululemon is having another huge warehouse sale. You can expect massive line-ups but also bargain prices for otherwise pricey yoga gear. I know the image of Lululemon-clad girls running about town has become a bit cliche, so if you'd rather avoid the stereotype Roots and Old Navy offer yoga lines too.

Since I'm back on the yoga track, hitting Bikram classes a few times a week, I feel like I spend most of my extra time doing laundry. That's one good reason to for me to pick up some more gear. Most of Lululemon's yoga tops and bottoms are made with material that wicks away moisture too so it'll be easier to handle the heat when my Bikram's instructor jacks the thermostat to 40C+.

Sale runs Thursday through Sunday 10-7 at 473 Adelaide Street West.

I know what you mean about hot yoga... I've done it a few times but given the amount of sweat that pours off my body while doing it, I think I will stick to the more traditional forms of yoga.

Same great bendy shapes. Half the sweat.

I'm so tired of these ridicolous girls paying $50 for a pair of ugly stretch pants. You can get the same stuff at Winners for half price - and you don't have to stand in line for it. Girls, I JUST DON'T GET IT. You can take your lululemons and stuff them up your shirts. Maybe it will help you out with the boobs you don't have.

Good friends of mine who are hot yoga instructors informed me that Lulu was quietly sold to Reebok last year. They were lamenting how the clothing is now not only manufactured with poorer materials and bad workmanship, but that it begins deteriorating quite early, and how their older clothing is outliving the newer stuff. Just a thought to be had.

Wow! Just saw the line-up, before the doors had opened, and it stretched from Adelaide down Portland to King and almost all the way to Brant Street. In this weather that's insanity!

Here's an old article on it.

Hey Michelle - here's a quick peek from the lulu lite re: Reebok. While I am no YOgi, and cannot attest to the materials, friends of mine are no doubt ones I would trust.

Thanks for adding the links. Just to summarize the Vancouver Sun story:

48% of Lululemon was sold for $108-million to Advent International and Highland Capital Partners (not Reebok, not sure who they are). Brand creator Chip Wilson said $8 million would go the firm's 650 worldwide employees in the form of cash and shares. Here's where Reebok comes in: Former Reebok CEO Robert Meers would join Lululemon as a consultant, with a view to taking over as CEO from Wilson.

Wonder how many more people think this has compromised Lululemon's quality.

The sale today...was a waste of time...seriously!

Average price was 30% off..I mean really. If you're gonna have a sale, make a real sale...with real deals. I went to the last sale in Toronto and it was worth the wait. $10, $20 even $50 max on items. I wish there was a way to warn people...DON"T GO!!! Everyone should just stop shopping there...just for kicks :P
I went the the preloved sale instead :-)

Day Two: The line was about 200 people long this morning just before 10AM. Would love to hear from one person who says it's been worth the wait in -17C weather.

Yesterday: Went at 3PM, saw about 120 freezing people in line, jumping around to stay warm. There was a giant speaker playing music and a cop and security guard for crowd control. Not my scene.

It's close to my work so I'll continue to give updates as I can.

Either you love Lululemon or you hate it. I personally love it. I work out almost every day and I have found their clothing to be the most comfortable clothing in terms of chafing and moisture wicking. The extra bonus is the clothing is stylish.

If anyone is looking for an alternative to lululemon i found a great new store, Dedicated Clothing located in mississauga...the fabric is the same and the styles are great too....picked up a lot of new stuff, slightly cheaper than lulu...but everything is made in canada, they manufacture everything in the same building that they sell in. Check out the website www.dedicatedclothing.com

if lululemon is the most comfortable thing you've ever worn, you've obviously never tried any underarmour, adidas, or nike gear.

Seriously, people are NUTS for this brand. I mean, I love it - but there's even a lululover fan club and website www.lululover.com and full on lululemon blog that gets updated all the time! I can't go more than a few feet in the city without seeing the logo.

The warehouse sales are great! Good deals and great prices. I found this place online as well lululemonoutlet.ca. There are a pretty good source for lululemon without the lineups.
