Visit the Bata Shoe museum, virtually

Posted by Anita / July 19, 2006

Batashoe.jpgLike many Torontonians there are many attractions I haven't visited. The only reason I ever visited the CN Tower is because I climbed it first. Once place I'm ashamed to say I've never visited is the Bata Shoe Museum. Isn't that sad for someone who claims to have a shoe fetish. However, Bata has decided to bring the museum to me. They opened several virtual exhibits. They join other sites like VirtualMuseum.ca and Civilization.ca. The exhibits cover Native, Inuit and Indian footwear history. It wouldn't be a post of mine without a fashion spin and of course there is an exhibit about the high heel.

I've been to the Bata Museum a few times, and despite the small size and the focus on footwear, I've always found it quite intriguing and captivating. Excellent way to spend a couple of hours on a lazy weekday afternoon. Of course, if you're stuck at work on lazy weekday afternoons, I guess the virtual museum is the way to go.

This online museum is definately cool but not a substitute for seeing museums first hand. Bata is free or pay what you can Thursday evenings (5-8). You should totally check it out. I particularly love the celebrity shoes and old Dior's they have on the upper floors.
