Take me to The Candi Factory

Don't get your panties tied into a knot. Put some sass on your ass. The Candi Factory underwear has personality written all over it. Why be boring when you can have underwear that is this fun?

The undies are around $20 and can be found around Toronto at Distill in the Distillery District, Annie Thompson and Fresh Collective both on Queen, and at the studio sale this weekend. These undies will love your bum for years to come.

1. How did you get your start in the fashion industry?

I went to Parsons School of Design in NYC way back in 93-94. Then of course, I learned more from jobs I had than I did from school.

2. Where is your company based?

Toronto

3. How did you come up with your design name?

It eluded me for so long. Then, it just became obvious. My name is Candice, and my clothes are sugary sweet, so then I just knew, I was The Candi Factory.

4. What details make your designs distinctly yours?

All of them, I think. The crazy colour combinations, bright trimming on everything, and, the big happy flowers. Every thing I do has to have a degree of funny in it. If it doesn't make you smile, why bother.

5. How would you describe your summer collection?

Pretty, but not too girly, fitted and flowing at the same time, happy colours as always, and it all kinda makes you wish you could just hang out on a beach in Mexico all summer.

6. What are the key materials in this collection (S/S 06)?

My undies are Supplex/Lycra, breathable and seriously comfortable. The skirts and dresses are 100% cotton, and the shirts have a mix of a bunch of soft fabrics, like rayon, nylon, cotton. It's all embedded with goodness.

7. Why do you love designing?

Frankly, I think it's all I know how to do. I've been making pretty things since I was 12, and haven't stopped yet.

8. What advice do you have for designers who are just starting out in the industry?

Have fun, don't take it too seriously.
