Theatrix Costume House

Posted by Talia Hart / Posted on October 14, 2012

Theatrix CostumeTheatrix Costume House is a high-end costume shop known for their rental costumes and custom creations. The storekeepers boast the shop's "full service" concept, as the devoted team aims to accommodate (and fulfill) each customer's unique costume requests. They also deal with fittings, alterations, and cleaning.

Theatrix CostumeImmediately upon entering this eclectic shop, I am confronted by their "idea board," which provides me with some basic shopping guidelines (should I need some in the search for the perfect costume). Apparently their full service shop goes a long way. If the idea board didn't quite do the trick for me, I also had the option of flipping through their extensive look-book.

Theatrix CostumeAs I speak with one of the friendly saleswomen, she assures me that the shop intends to "fill every hole" when it comes to costumes and theatrics. As a year round costume shop, they don't limit themselves to one type of merchandise or customer. With that said, they do focus on higher end rental costumes, with most of their inventory selling between $70-200. This excludes the select stock of packaged costumes and accessories that sell for much less.

Theatrix CostumeLucky for me, I get a tour of their rental stockroom, and am awed by the extravagant ensembles before me: Venetian dresses, authentic metal armor, mascots, and musical theatre characters. My favourites were the custom made one-of-a-kind get-ups, and specifically their featured "Salad Girl"...and yes, I'm referring to the lettuce, tomato & cucumber kind of salad. Oh, how costumes have evolved.

Theatrix CostumeBeyond their rental stock, I notice all the Halloween must-haves perched up on the shelves and walls: wigs, masquerade masks, full-faced masks (political and horror) and generic packaged customs.

Theatrix CostumeWere I interested, they also offer a unique makeup service that would let me to get my makeup done professionally at the store. Indeed, they bring their full service shop full circle.

Today I wanted to explore all the costume places and I was really excited to check this place out. Finally after getting there I walked into to this small but awesome looking place. I didn't see I person that worked there. The costumes looked pretty interesting but It was very cramped and cluttered. So I walked towards the back which was wide open only to be told off for walking in the employee only area. Which was not marked at all and looked like the rest of the store. I was very polite and appoligized only to get a dirty look back.. I definitely don't recommend this place. Two seconds of being in there and I got the worst vibes.

Do you have an Aladdin costume? The one prior to him becoming a prince, so i guess his 'street rat' or 'riffrat' costume. It consists of a purple vest, a brown sash (arabic belt), and white baggy pants with a patch under one of the knees.

I need a phantom of the opera mask, covering the right side of the face. Could you please let me know if you have it (adult size) and what the price would be. I would also like to know exactly how it is fastened (glued/taped on or elastic strap). I would need to pick it up early next week if it is possible.

I've observed that in the world the present day, video games are definitely the latest craze with kids of all ages. Occasionally it may be extremely hard to drag young kids away from the activities. If you want the very best of both worlds, there are numerous educational activities for kids. Thanks for your post.

Halloween Wedding:
I am planning my Halloween wedding, my Fiancée and I are getting married on Halloween and I decided to come to the Theatrix and I was thrilled with not only the selection of costumes and props available to me but also how fun-loving and enthusiastic the staff were. I hands down found everything I could possibly need for my dream Halloween wedding at Theatrix. They are worth checking out for all your costume needs.
Ashley / November 26, 2014 at 12:39 pm
The staff are amazing! I had a wild costume in mind for Halloween this year, I had no idea where to start. I came in and got to work with the design team, they helped bring my crazy design to life. I am so happy with the final product and would highly recommend Theatrix to anyone who wants a memorable costume.
Jacob / November 26, 2014 at 01:15 pm
Truly a hidden gem. I came in to see if they had Santa suits and they had an entire rack of them for sale and rent. The staff were a tremendous help and really knowledgeable. They were even to do an alteration on the costume while I waited!
