Theatrix Costume House
Theatrix Costume House is a high-end costume shop known for their rental costumes and custom creations. The storekeepers boast the shop's "full service" concept, as the devoted team aims to accommodate (and fulfill) each customer's unique costume requests. They also deal with fittings, alterations, and cleaning.
Immediately upon entering this eclectic shop, I am confronted by their "idea board," which provides me with some basic shopping guidelines (should I need some in the search for the perfect costume). Apparently their full service shop goes a long way. If the idea board didn't quite do the trick for me, I also had the option of flipping through their extensive look-book.
As I speak with one of the friendly saleswomen, she assures me that the shop intends to "fill every hole" when it comes to costumes and theatrics. As a year round costume shop, they don't limit themselves to one type of merchandise or customer. With that said, they do focus on higher end rental costumes, with most of their inventory selling between $70-200. This excludes the select stock of packaged costumes and accessories that sell for much less.
Lucky for me, I get a tour of their rental stockroom, and am awed by the extravagant ensembles before me: Venetian dresses, authentic metal armor, mascots, and musical theatre characters. My favourites were the custom made one-of-a-kind get-ups, and specifically their featured "Salad Girl"...and yes, I'm referring to the lettuce, tomato & cucumber kind of salad. Oh, how costumes have evolved.
Beyond their rental stock, I notice all the Halloween must-haves perched up on the shelves and walls: wigs, masquerade masks, full-faced masks (political and horror) and generic packaged customs.
Were I interested, they also offer a unique makeup service that would let me to get my makeup done professionally at the store. Indeed, they bring their full service shop full circle.
