Moms To Be and More

Posted by Staff / Posted on July 20, 2009

Moms To Be and MoreMoms to Be and More is one of the largest baby stores in Toronto, with a vast array of baby-related items filling two large floors. The selection of furniture and bedding is particularly impressive, with cheerful modern prints and beautiful cribs from DwellStudio and organic sheets from Giggle to complete a stylish and modern nursery.

Worst baby store in the city for customer service. Their prices are decent, but it isn't worth going there for the way they treat you.

I completely agree. I purchased a crib from them that they assured me would arrive prior to my due date. The crib did not arrive until my baby was 2 months old! I asked repeatedly for refund and was refused. They told me I could use their used loaner bassinets which disgusted me. The managers were the worst of all. The front line staff was far more reasonable and pleasant.

Do not shop there!

It's unfortunate that these two ladies had an unsatisfactory experience and their comments are most likely valid. There is absolutely no way of verifying what they say or I say. However this is a good vehicle if a competitor wanted to sabatoge someone. I am a Grandmother and my daughter recommended this store highly. Whether it's restaurants or retail, your experience depends on the mood of the sales person that is serving you at that time. I have found that most of the time sales reps are helpful and pleasant, unfortunately we only hear about the ones that are not. We customers always make time to complain, but how many of us take the time to compliment.

I agree with Ashely and Susan. The managers attitudes are horrible, like they don't care for your business.
The store is a good place to get everything at one spot but you can also get most products elsewhere. I started to shop at other places for my daughter now because of the bad services and attitude I experienced a few too many times.

I completely disagree with the above statements!! I love this store!! i rented my breast pump, bought my strollers, car seat and everything else I needed. I found that if you asked for help you received it! They are extremely busy and maybe that is why their experience was poor, but I love it here! The staff saved me from buying a co-sleeper that I didn't need, they placed me on a list for an item that was out of stock and I received it within 2 days and overall very helpful and knowledgeable about things. I do have to say that I haven't ordered furniture, or had to return anything in order to have a poor experience, but the courtesy calls I received when having a breast pump rental for 6 months were very pleasant and friendly. I love Moms to be and more....

I agree that their customer service is lacking. We went there for the first time recently with the intention to purchase a stroller and tried one out with our son in it for at least 15 min in plain view of about 4 staff who did not appear to be busy with other customers. No one asked if we needed any assistance, had any questions or offered to demonstrate to features of the stroller. I do extensive research before purchasing things like strollers so I knew how to use many of the features but I was wondering about how to fold it for example.

When you're about to spend at least 800.00 on a stroller I think that some kind of customer service would be nice. When I finally asked if there was a certain colour in stock all the person behind the counter did was tell me that it wasn't available- no offer of information about when it would be available, what other colours were available etc. unless I asked. On the way home I called another store where I have received good service (an actual demonstration of how another stroller that we bought works) to find out if the same stroller was available- it is on back order at this store but I'm thinking that I would rather wait and purchase from a store that actually understands how to give good customer service.

Mom's to Be and More has received some good reviews and I don't doubt that some people go there and receive good service but consistency is important because they never know who is going to walk in and what kind of business they could be losing as a result of not being consistent and pissing someone off.

Just bought a convertible car seat from this store and had it installed by their installers - well, the installer neglected to attached the rear tether strap that the instruction manual says should be attached. When I contacted the installer (Canadian Car Seat Installation Centre)to ask why it wasn't done Chris said that if the tether wasn't attached that there was no where to attach it to. I checked the manual and there is not only an anchor to attach the tether behind the seat but Britax also includes a d ring to assist in tethering. I called Moms to Be to voice my concerns with their installer and the owner, Karen, who actually didn't call me back I had to contact her again after a 3 hour wait, said that I was wrong and Chris knows what he is doing. Karen tried to put the blame on me and indicated that I was at fault for checking with other people who had the same car seat installed properly. She then commented that my attitude and if I wasn't so rude perhaps I could understand things better. Sorry if the safety of my child gets me a bit riled up.I should mention that when my wife was waiting to have the seat installed, two other customers came back to the shop indicating that their seats were loose and needed adjustments and the installer made a comment that one of the costumers was a real snob.
Anyway, this store has seen the last of my business. Like above posts, there are plenty of other stores with exactly the same stuff and with a more knowledgeable friendly staff. Not a bunch of 20 somethings who just spew the same jargon over and over again. Oh, and the OPP will be installing any of my future car seats - call them up as they provide free clinics.

Hi, I went to buy a stroller with my wife last week to “Moms to be…… and more” (MTB) because one of my friends recommended it. Please do NOT but a stroller or anything else in this store. If you need a stroller go to another place, the people at MTB not only they don’t know what they are selling, but also they are unethical.
We went to MTB and we told to one of the sellers that we are looking for a 3 wheels stroller with a strong rain cover. The seller person told us that the best that they have is the “BOB Expedition”. Then we checked it and it looks fine. We asked her to install the rain cover for us in the sample model, so we can see how it works. She told us that there is not any packaging open, so she can not demonstrate us, but she told us that all the covers works in the same way.
Following the seller advice (that we has told that the employees there are knowledgeable), we bought the “BOB Expedition” and a “BOB rain cover”.
Two day after I assembled the stroller and then I tried to install the rain cover. I spent 2 hours trying to install the rain cover, but it didn’t work. The pictures of the instruction show a different stroller or perhaps an older model. So, thought that perhaps I got the wrong cover or I don’t understand the instructions.
Then, next day, 3 days after we purchased the stroller, we went to MTB with the stroller and the rain cover. We went to customer service. We explained to the customer service person our problem and call the supervisor. The supervisor arrived and confirmed that it is the right rain cover. Then she tried to install it and she failed. However, she said that she has never installed one before, so she called another employee. 3 different employees try to installed, but no one of them could install the rain cover. Finally a last employee using all his body and with the help of the others ones installed it in a way that it was clear no correct way at all. The cover didn’t close well and it was ridicules tight everywhere. It was clear that the cover doesn’t work properly.
Then, we explained that we are paying a high price for a quality stroller and we can’t accept this. Buying a stroller is a big effort for us and the cover doesn’t work as should be. So, we asked to change the stroller for another one stroller which rain cover works well.
The supervisor told us the cover works well. Also, she said that they (the 2 employees and the supervisor) couldn’t install right away because it was the first time that they installed the cover in one of the stroller. Finally, she told us that we can’t return the stroller because we put it together and the wheels touch the floor.
We told her that it is against the law to sell something that doesn’t work. We want a stroller with a rain cover that works and it is clear that the BOB Exploration doesn’t work.
In short after 20 minutes discussion, the supervisor accepted the stroller back charging us 10% for restocking, but giving us for free the rain cover of the new stroller that we pick. I was against to pay restocking fee for a mistake, but in order to leave the place I accepted.
Of course that, we never received any apologize.
My wife told the supervisor that she believes that the “Phil and Teds” stroller has a zipper to attach the rain cover. The supervisor said that no one of the stroller has a zipper. Interestingly, the “Phil and Teds” has a zipper. We finally got the Phil and Ted with the rain cover.
I don’t know if the persons who work at MTB don’t know anything about what they are selling or they try to scam the customers. If we didn’t battle for what we believe was fair, we probably had to go back home with an expensive stroller that has not rain cover.
I believe that MTB probably have a better agreement with the brand “BOB”, so they recommend it and they know that the rain cover doesn’t work properly.
Please do not buy any product in this store.

It's clear that there are some issues with service and product knowledge based on the above reviews. I have been here twice and not encountered those same issues, but I went to buy lower cost products and this store has perhaps the best selection in the city.

I had pleasant interactions with their staff and found what I needed (and more). But from the sounds of it it's probably best that lightweight interactions are ideal and that you should do all your own research on some of the bigger ticket items.

Great store. Got what I needed. Staff on the other hand completely the worst I have ever come across. Didn't come to check on me while I was trying things one, was not helpful at all. My husband had to help me out, pretty sad when you are spending 200.00 on one visit to the store.

I went to this store for the first time today and experienced none of the things that people above have complained about! We spent quite a bit of time looking at gliders and had sales people come over two or three times to ask if we needed help or to answer questions. In another department we had immediate service help in locating an item on the floor. In the stroller area we found the staff to be quite knowledgeable as well... Overall a very good experience!

Does anyone know anything about the post natal binding or massages? I have a friend that is looking into it for herself. Are these common? Or is it like the new age gimic with some old culture practises?

Don't be fool!. This store stinks...... The poor customer service should be enough to keep you away.
Make yourself a favour and shop at other store. They just want your money and then, they don't want complaints of any kind.
Rude, rude people.

We've ordered a Bristol cherry guard rail for the same make and model toddler bed a total of ELEVEN WEEKS AGO! They said it will take 6 to 8 weeks to receive our order. Moms To Be and More did nothing to notify us or to apologize for the delay -- we were completely forgotten about. When I called Moms To Be and More at 9 AM this morning, I was told that they will call their supplier and they will notify me of their follow-up call within about 2 hours. At 4 PM (7 hours after my initial call) I called Moms To Be and More again and they (apparently) didn't have a clue what's going on. I was on hold for about 10 minutes when the girl on the phone kept using their source for excuses upon excuses. When I told them that it is THEIR responsibility to notify their Customer after about 8 weeks into the order... she said she is unable to carry on our conversation any further and she called her manager to speak with me. Michelle, the manager for Moms To Be and More, spoke with me and she kept doing the exact same (lame) thing, kept using their supplier as it's their fault that they are late with delivery and their system is being changed, etc. (probably all a bunch of make-up stories). When I asked her to stop blaming another company for their screw-up for neglecting to call us and for completely forgetting about us, she FINALLY apologized. She offered that she will refund the delivery portion of our order and they will deliver our order for free. I now wonder if they will really do that... Wouldn't anyone wonder, after all? Michelle said their "source" said it will be about 2 weeks to have our product. I told her that I want them to call me once a week about the state of our order. She said she will do that. In my personal opinion it would have taken only about 2 weeks to have our order -- have they not forgotten about us completely. I will follow up with the rest of the story, whether we get our order in time or not. I would NOT recommend Moms To Be and More to anyone at this time!

Some of this accusations are pretty outrageous. I have shopped at Moms to be and More for the last couple of years, for both my children.I always had a great experience. I did have some trouble this year with my furniture order. I purchased from a specific furniture company. I believe it's the same one as the above person's. This company normally takes about 2 months for the furniture to arrive. A few days after my crib and dresser were due in i got a call from their furnishings department. The girl on the phone was extremely nice and sympathetic to the fact that my furniture was delayed by the furniture company. She also had the unfortunate news of telling me the company had discontinued my crib while it was on order! She was very informative about what exactly was the problem. She explained how that company had discontinued several other customer's items that were also on order. She gave me options of cribs that they had in stock or already on order that could work for me. They exchanged the crib (which was at a higher cost) and didn't charge me extra. I asked her for the company's info and complaint line as the problem had come from them not the store. Why shoot the messenger I figured. I told the girl that I felt sorry that she would probably have a day ahead of her of angry customers that would probably yell at her when she had no control over the situation. Kinda like the REALLY angry man who commented above. I have worked/managed a retail store in the past and try my best to treat the "front line" people with respect and care as they are the ones that have to listen to peoples (let's just admit it, sometimes unreasonable expectations) . I love Moms to be and more and will continue to shop there. Like an above woman had said everyone is so quick to complain about the bad experiences but no one takes the time for the good.

Now on with the complaining... Next !

WOW! Glad to see I'm not alone! DON'T SHOP HERE OR THEIR OTHER BUSINESS- Canadian Car Seat Installation Centre.
They do not respect you or appreciate your business nor your hard earned money that you're spending in their stores.

I bought 2 car seats from these jerks (Car Install Centre) spent a small fortune for our kids and my sister in-law's twins and when I went in to the installation centre to look at an upgraded car seat for my youngest- I was spoken to and treated like a vagrant..

I gave Karen the owner of MTB a heads up of the experience as most SMBs don't know when they lose customers..She now knows and the sad thing is..THEY DON'T REALLY CARE.

Any experience involving purchases for your child/children should be a pleasurable one, these guys take their customers for granted..SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE that will respect you, your hard earned money and appreciates your business..

Moms To Be and More happens to be the greatest store that I've ever shopped at. The customer service is superb and the staff there are knowledgeable. The people here complaining are the ones who come on a Saturday expecting to be serviced immediately despite the store being packed. Are you people not aware how popular this store is? I've spent almost 12 grand on this store and I will never sympathize with people writing novels about a 50 dollar raincover. The service may not always be perfect but considering what you get elsewhere (like Dearborn and Lil Niblets) you should be grateful that such this place exists.

"None of the staff wanted to help me!"
You were probably approached and denied their assistance. When you needed help you expected them to read your mind. Get over yourself.

These walls of texts are unfounded loads of crap.
It's beyond me why people complain about their 'tragic" experiences at Moms to Be. Why do you people continue to visit a place if it "stresses" you out so much?

Get a hobby.

I have shopped at this store numerous times and have never had any problems. There is a customer service department that are very empathetic and help with any problems. I had a registry and I was notified of products that were being discontinued. It's not the stores fault that their companies decide to drop a product. It is the 'sources' problem, as one man put it, not the store.
I will continue to shop here and value the knowledge and service they give me each and every time.

It doesn't matter what you spend. Bad service is bad service. There is a lot of shilling going on. As someone said, how do we know any of this is not from competitors and/or store staff? We don't. Take everything with a grain of salt.
And the guy who thinks spending 12k and getting good service cancels out the bad service someone else got on a $50 purchase, well sir, you are a douche.

The last time I was at the store I became slightly agitated because so many sales personelle asked if they could help me. That's just me being eight months pregnant & cranky. I've never had anything but great service here and am shocked to read these negative comments. And for the record (not that it matters), I've registered here but bought very little so far.

I recently went to the store to register with 2 girlfriends and was very disappointed with the customer service. One staff member tried to up sell me on a stroller and I was extremely irritated!!! Another staff member insulted us when we asked several questions. Although the staff is knowledgeable, in no way does that mean to insult customers who are not sure of a product. I would not recommend this store to anyone!

It's just too bad that the good stores are not in Toronto. I was recommend by a friend to go to Mississauga. Now this store is very pleasant and helpful. They go out of their way to help you. I can't believe that the gentlemen put my stroller together, considering I am 8 months and my husband is away and I needed the stroller for my newborn. Health and Safety Store is a great store for all your baby needs!!! For an additional drive it was well WORTH IT!!!

Wow ... We thought we were the only ones not liking this store. We bought a convertible crib to bed years ago (which I don't recommend for you new parents) and when it was time to convert the crib, all the bed assessories were the wrong size to actually convert the crib to the bed. So after 3 years from purchasing this product from this store, we had called them to let them know what happened. Easy right? Nope. They told us we had to buy another bed from them. They didn't want to help solve the problem that they made. Fortunately we kept the receipt, so that they could look up what went wrong. One girl was very rude to use telling us that our child can sleep on the floor. Pretty funny, eh? That's when we decided to go to the better business bureau to complain further. The owner was not very helpful when the bbb was involved. We think she didn't even care that there was a complaint against her. So the problem was left unresolved. We suggest that if you have a problem with this store, report them to the bbb and shop some place else. Yes it may be a convienient store to go to, but believe us, we had found other stores that were much better. Eg Bunk House, lil' nibblets, etc

I love moms to be and have never had a problem! I also absolutely love the brand new maternity store that opened up across the street! With new and used clothing! All the prices are amazing! My mom bought me a gift certificate of $100.00 for my birthday and it bought me four outfits!!!

Great store and amazing finds!

Sounds like Marco works at the store. He seems to have the same attitude as the sales people are being accused of.

Wow Marco you spent $12,000 and that makes you better than someone who wold spend $50 and you tell other people to get over themselves. Then you tell people to be happy such a place exists. So are you saying people are shopping there because they have no choice?

There are plenty of other stores and I would encourage people to shop at stores who teat all customers well. I will certainly avoid it and warn my friends about it. Especially with a store manager like Marco.....oh ya right you are just a customer and not affiliated with the store...sure.
