she's really sweet and will probably be able to take you while she's teaching.
He's gotten my curly hair into a Bettie Page cut, given me a candystripe red and natural hair dye job that was really fun, to celebrate my mid-life crisis, which we've tamed to a more sedate wild shag, with purple highlights.
He's got great taste in what makes women look good and I trust him completely...can't remember the last time I told him what to cut it to, I just let him know what's happening in my life and what I need him to cut it for. He gets it and does what's appropriate, and yet, still cool.
Thanks in advance!
I'm sure that the prices are about the same as all salons at this level. I don't want to post what I'm charged (although it's very reasonable), because having been a client of Ken's for such a long time, I may be getting a preferred rate.
If you would like a Modern clean website to go with the style of your salon 'Fringe', Please contact me at jordyn.lynn.wilson@gmail.com, or 289-688-8758.
Thanks!

Okay so prices are $50-$65 for a cut. $65+ for colour and $120+ for hilites. And as for a website I didn't know what I wanted. It's a first impression and I want it to be perfect and simple.
sorry for the late response I rarely check this.
And as for Lila. Sorry you had a bad experience. I am not sure who you saw and where the miscommunication happened. It doesn't make me happy when our clients are unsatisfied. And it is good to know when you are unhappy so that we can learn and improve.
Thanks
Websites are almost mandatory in today's society, just for the fact that people spend most of their time on a computer, cellphone, blackberry, etc. where they are always connected to the web.
So it would certainly be beneficial to have a website, you will most likely bring in more business.
If your interested, you can contact me via email; jordyn.lynn.wilson@gmail.com.
Thanks!
Can I walk in or make an appointment on the same day?
Then months later, my boyfriend randomly went it and got the same guy. 50$ for a men's haircut, WTF? and on top of it, he nicked the side of his head with the clipper and made him look like he had a bald patch due to a scar, which he doesn't.
Is he representative of the rest of the staff? I hope not, because I really want to like that salon and support my own 'hood.
Sorry to hear you didn't get what you were looking for. I stand by all my stylists and think they are great which is why I have them working for me. We do not all have the same cutting background. We have different techniques which make us all cut slightly different. Maybe you would like to try another stylist? Give me a call at the salon. 416.588.1336. Ask to speak with me (lora). I would like to chat for a moment.
Thank you.
Also, to the gentleman enquiring about our hours. We are Tues-Friday 10-7:30 (we will stay later if we need to) Saturday 10-5. We are currently closed Sunday and Monday. Sorry for any inconvience.
And. We are in the process of building a website. Should be up in a few weeks:)
Thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated.
I really appreciate it, and our conversation, and wanted to make a point of mentioning it here for the benefit of readers who will stumble upon this post in the future. Also, of course, to give you credit; I think it was mature, professional and open minded.
In light of that, and the otherwise overwhelmingly positive feedback your salon/stylists have earned, I am definitely willing to chalk my experience up to bad luck and probably some miscommunication too. I truly look forward to meeting you in person, and letting you chop off my tresses so we can donate them to a worthy cause.
Thanks again :)
After having my hair super long for 4 years, last year I decided to get a shorter haircut because my hair was thinning and very unhealthy due to a stupid hairstylist at Tony&Guy who almost burned my head and turned it yellow!
The hairstylist chopped off 75% of my hair and basically I had to get my hair "fixed" 3 times after that so the last time I had my hair cut was last August and I looked like Katie Holmes on a VERY bad hair day!
It is growing now but in the ugliest and most unfashionable way but I am TRAUMATIZED by all those bad experiences and all that money spent. I am used to my mother's style but she lives abroad and I can't seem to trust anyone else on my hair.
I am VERY picky and a real pain in the ass and basically any hairstylist's nightmare because I grew up with 3 hairdressers in my family and I always know what I want.
Should i wait for my hair to grow past shoulder-length to even start trimming?
I really don't know what to do and I know some people can't understand this but I cry over my hair like there's no tomorrow lol I can see that ur salon is popular so I am afraid to not get enough time/attention..
What do you think?
Thank you Trevor.
*Fringe is also a really nice atmosphere and I feel that they pay close attention to what there clients are asking and need.
I would love to meet with you and see your hair. Maybe we can book a consultation and I can direct you from there. I understand crying over a haircut. I to have done it:)
Enjoy your day.
Also, Sorry there is no website yet. I have been super busy but hopefully it will be up by mid April. Thank you for your patience.
Lora
I live in the neighbourhood and had heard about Fringe though a friend, so I did my research and found the great reviews. I ended up going yesterday and Ken gave me an amazing haircut, which I love, love, love! What a lovely man he is, not only talented at what he does, but so warm and personable.
I HIGHLY recommend - thanks again Ken!
I travel from the "terrible" 905 just to get my hair cut and styled by Lora. Haven't been with anyone else at her salon, but a quick consultation with her about what you're feeling and wanting and she makes it happen. This place is great and everyone is friendly. Would recommend! A+++++++
BTW Lora, if you see this -- the whole 1950's side split cut you gave me last time; everyone's loving it. :)
See you soon!
I saw it, thanks so much. It does suit you and looks great. I think I will probably be seeing you soon:).
As for Katt, You would be needing a colour correction. I would book with myself or lesley for this. Lesley is also amazing at doing colour corrections. I would book a 15 minute consultation to see how your hair is and where we can realistically get you in terms of lighter colour. we can discuss prices then based on the process. Feel free to call the salon at 4165881336.
I don't check this often,
Thank you,
Lora
It is best to book an appointment although sometimes we can fit in if it's not to busy.
Thank you Cari:)
I feel a sense of duty to my process to bring it full circle by posting a review of my own. My appointment was with Lesley, and I'm not sure if I "lucked out" or if she is par the course in terms of quality for Fringe stylists. I went from long, dye damaged hair to a fresh cut with vibrant colour. Lesley was friendly, professional, considerate, and efficient. She gracefully stayed late to finish the job, and both cut and colour turned out excellent. Also the company of her kitten, and great tunes like Wilco and Led Zepellin were appreciated. My only complaint would be that the air conditioning wasn't quite up to snuff and the heat was killing me. The heat was worth it though, I think my hair has found a new home.
For the last 5 years I've been going to cheap hair salons that charge like 10-15$ that only know how to shorten my hair but lack the knowdlege of styling. I need my hair styled really well and although I don't know which would suit me the best, I was wondering if you have people that know how to style well with short hair without making it look too flashy, I am going to university this fall and I want it looking hot but not flashy or weird. Although 50$ is very high for me, I am willing to pay if i can be assured that I will get what I want because I don't want to make a first impression at uni with a really bad hairstyle. Shall I call you to discuss this in detail?
Hoping you still check this site. I'm in search of a new stylist and since my husband comes to your salon I thought I'd call to inquire.
When I asked about pricing they said it depended on the stylist not the cut but that it was $50 and up. When I asked who was available at a given time, I was told a name (it was the person on the phone) and when I asked how much she charged she said $50 and up. Why can't I get a straight answer? It's either the stylist or it isn't. Sadly, I didn't make an appointment because I refuse to unless someone can tell me a price.
This isn't the first time we've gotten an elusive response - we also called to inquire about a cut for my son.
and is it pricy?
Peace.
Sorry for the delayed response. Jill, I am not sure why you could not get a straight answer. That really concerns me and will be dealing with this immediately. I have been under-going changes at the salon and we are still in the training process. Cuts do range from 50-65. Jess and trevor being 50. Lesley being $55, Ken being $60 and myself being $65. If anyone reading this ever has any issues with this feel free to ask to speak with me and we can go from there.
As for the attitude that ml experienced I try to run my salon attitude free. I have had many a meetings about this and I hope in the future you will notice an improvement. My apologies for that.
And...Penelope. I understand in this type of career that I so passionately love that it is not always possible to make everyone happy. We do about 50 haircuts a week ( each stylist) and sometimes it is not always easy to understand someone else's vision although we try our best. My apologies as well.
Also for all our clients. We are undergoing changes as I mentioned above and I thank you for your patience and support. Without you we would not exist. All comments good and bad are good and welcomed. Thanks
first off the receptionist was rude and unhelpful.
second, the woman who cut my hair, (i believe her name is leslie but i cant be certain because she never introduced herself to me)
did THE WORST JOB! and i got a straight forward MENS cut!
she had a shitty attitude, kept snipping tiny bits off and i had to tell her 3 times to go shorter.
she even rolled her eyes. she didnt clean up the back of my neck and i had a few long hairs left behind my ears.
but the BEST PART: it costs 60$$$ for an ametuer cut!
i couldnt believe how ripped off i felt.
i honestly believe i could have recieved much more professionalism and a much better cut from a hair student.
i URGE men NOT to get their hair cut here.
salons like gratefulhead and barbarella cut mens hair sooo much better and for 40 bucks, not 58.25 or whatever it was after tax.
this salon is the WORST!!!
i got my hair by jessie (i think that was her name) and she was great. extremely funny and outgoing and took her time with my hair and it looked great
the rest of the staff was very nice and laid back and the environment was quite peaceful considering it was slightyl busy that day. the receptionist got me a coffee and was very friendly and inviting and even helped me with some product knowledge.
i was very impressed by jessie and the overall enviroment of the salon. will be back for sure
I will definitely be back to see Lesley.
In August, I was recommended Fringe by a friend and booked an appointment with Jessie. She did a great job so I rebooked her for my cut and re-colour. I have to say she is amazing. I have paid upwards of 200-250 for sub-par cut and colour and I am very glad I have discovered her.
I do have a slight beef though...
My one complaint I have is the receptionist. I walked in to have her look up at me and then go back to talking with the cuter male stylist, without a greeting or acknowledgement. It took me walking directly up to her before HE not her actually greeted me and confirmed my time and stylist, offered me coffee tea or water and welcomed me to take a seat. You should be paying him to be your receptionist because she clearly does not give a shit. She has the most sour look on her face and the only thing that seemed to get her attention during my whole appointment was the aforementioned cute male stylist. When I asked her if I could use the washroom, she looked at me as though I was putting her out, and one of the stylists finally pointed out where it was, while this supposed receptionist glared at me.
I don't normally like to rag on someone, but reading the previous comments, it seems I am not the first (or the last I'm sure) who have had an issue with this girl.
She needs to be replaced pronto.
Other than that, love the salon, love the service, and love Jessie.
Sometimes when people complain about their experiences and how people have treated them, I wonder how they've treated those who are helping them. Maybe you're getting a reaction from the attitude you're giving them?
Anyways, Fringe rocks.
Lora's great as is the rest of her staff.
at the crybaby who claims to have had a bad cut and bad time. Have you, if you are real, ever wondered if YOU are a boring, creepy person (with "long hairs" growing out of your neck!)? If you have beef with her why big tell her? People hating on these boards are usually from rival companies, so ignore Miss Hairy Neck, and if u want to look almost ad good as Les or any of the Fringe babes, head over.
make get look sad.
Fringe rawks!
I try to respond to this blog as professionally and unbiased as possible. I try to take in account my staff who I adore and my clients (not just mine but my staff's). I thought about all the recent activity on this site all weekend and how to handle all the comments (negative). I appreciate constructive critism. As the owner of fringe I ask myself what do I do? What changes do I make? What comments are
legit and what are not? Some of these comments are very serious and could possibly have some serious reprocusions.
If you do have a serious complaint about a staff please call me. It makes it more effective in knowing how to handle it. I did advise the receptionist to let me take the calls.
I have prided myself on having an attitude free salon in an industry that is already intimidating. And these comments really upset me.
Please call me if you have concerns or you can also email me.

Thank you

A few days ago an associate and I came across a number of deorogatory remarks about my stylist on this site and I was deeply offended.
My friend posted---as DIVABABY666---comments back, which, at the time, we found quite risible.
I see now they in no way reflect my experience at Fringe: I have been going to the salon for many years, since its inception, and feel that Lesley G., my stylist, is a godsend; that the rest of the staff is also talented, warm and professional.
Particularly Lora Sosa, the proprietor, who is the apotheosis of customer care and service.
I assert that I do not feel this site should be used for gossip or malicious, if not actionable statements; and that
all this talk about "attitude" is counter-productive.
When I have had _any_ issue in the past I have spoken directly to the relevant person: ergo, this mea culpa (regarding what seemed like damned good parody at the time.)
If my friend and I have given offense to the staff of Fringe, I extend my sincerest apologies and the following advice:
Do not drink bourbon and post! There is no Delete button.
Sincerely,
Lynn C.
I have just read through all comments including your responses and appreciate your professional attitude towards your clients.
For many years now I've not not been happy with my cuts nor highlights. After 15 years in Ottawa, I'm now back in Toronto, and at 48 am transitioning in my career (back at school full time). What I'm looking for in a cut is something that looks professional but in a relaxed sort of way, and that doesn't require a lot of upkeep.
My question is this - I'd like to know who you would recommend at your salon that I could get a consultation from. Someone experienced who is creative with cuts for someone like me at the younger end of the baby boomer generation. I want the cut to be complementary (keeping the grey as a highlight!) so I can look the best I can, especially for when I begin to interview for jobs.
Whenever you get a chance to respond...would be appreciated.
Thanks
Welcome back to Toronto. I think you would enjoy myself or Lesley. We both understand a good balance between professional and stylish with out being over the top. You can book a consultation anytime and we can both chat with you. We may have very different ideas that can work well together.
Hope to see you,
Lora
Happy holidays everyone!
I'm coming by with my girlfriend on the 30th, she has an appointment with you! See you then!
Joe.
We both decided that it would be best to layer my hair because it was so long and heavy, but I made a point to tell Lora that I do not want the layers to be choppy.
After she was done the cut she offered to curl my hair (I told her I was going out the following night), which was really nice of her. After the was done curling it looked horrible, but she assured me that the curls would fall the next day and have a loose tousled look, and I trusted her.
The next day the curls didn't fall at all and were still really tight, which isn't a big deal at all, I washed my hair and just blow dried it straight. Thats when I saw how horrible the haircut really was. The layers are really choppy - and almost feathery, I look like I just came out of an 80's video, they are uneven - in the back, they are noticeably shorter on the left side, the layers don't blend, they just stop then the hair is long and then there's layers again, and it's not thinned out at all, so the bottom is very heavy and uneven. All and all it looks like crap, I was literally in tears after I dried it straight. The only thing that's passible about the haircut are the bangs.
I tried calling back there to say how unhappy I am with the haircut, no one picked up, and I decided not to call back. I figured there's no point because the most they are going to offer me is to fix the haircut, but I don't trust them to touch my hair again. I've had some questionable haircuts, but this is by far the worst one I've had in years.
I'm really upset. I take great pride in my hair, and now I'm going to have to wear it up in a bun (you can see how poor the layers are even when in a ponytail) for the next 4-6 weeks, and then get another hairdresser to hopefully fix this.
I have NEVER commented on a blog about anything before, but this haircut is so bad that I felt like I needed to share my experience. I'm not saying Lora is a bad hairdresser, because obviously some people get great haircuts from her, but unfortunately she did a horrible job with my hair. So disappointed.
Ella
I'm wondering where she has gone and how I can get in touch with her as I would like her to still cut my hair.
On a side note I just wanted to say that her not being at the salon is a huge loss to Fringe. She is an amazing hairdresser and I will be keeping my business with her wherever she goes.
Also, Jess is no longer with us. Yes, she is a very talented young lady. She is now living in Mississauga and when she let's us know where she will be working we will let you her clients know as well as we wish her lots of success.
To be honest with everyone. I think for 2011 I am going to stop reading this blog. As much as it has been great for us it also comes with stress.
And please. Any comments feel free to call me at the salon. If we don't answer please leave a message and I promise to call back as soon as possible.
Happy 2011
Thank you
I just went to Fringe today for the first time and saw Chantal. She's really cool, listened to what I wanted and gave me a great cut. She made suggestions to improve my idea of how I think my hair should be, as well she consulted with me about my colour (without prompting), which I appreciated because that never happens at salons that have designated colour techs and designated stylists.
I was previously going to Civello on Queen and kept having less than great experiences there; so I'm very happy to say that the Fringe experience was a great one and I'll be going there to see Chantal from now on :)
It's also a nice space, brick walls, wood floors, new, fresh...very nice.
Chanel is awesome!!!
If you read any of my previous comments you'll know that I love Chanel. She's super nice, gave me a great cut and suggested a colour that I ended up trying and am so happy I did.
Chantal is black, so she may be able to do black hair very well.
I recommend him to all my friends.
I've started a new job where I'll be travelling & have to look reasonably presentable; I cannot have my very-long hair just whipping about loosely (it's not looking great that way anyway, lol.) I *have* to find a salon where I can get a friendly smile & (relatively) simple style, when needed. Maybe a shampoo + condition, blow dry, and then some kind of fancy bun...? Would Fringe be a good place for that?
I just seem clueless when it comes to doing virtually anything with my hair, even though videos aplenty online make it look so easy. My hair is quite long. I'm certain after 9 years, it could use a trim to remove dead ends, but I'm scared of the stylist getting carried away. I don't want a 'cut' per se; a trim, maybe. I also have fine/flat hair, & want volume - OK my apologies, I'll wrap this up.
Is Fringe a trans-friendly salon? And does Fringe do styling (from simple, to elaborate), or just cuts? Lastly, if Fringe does do styling - there'll be some picture catalogs that the stylist & I can look through to choose from, right?
Thank you for your response! :)
1) got there 10:00 a.m.-the hairdresser I booked wasn't there-he was late
2) I asked him for a hair treatment-he left my head dangling in the sink without a towel under it- when he put the cream in-and left for it to work-since then my neck pain has been terrible-
first of all
1) I know that for a hair treatment-2 minutes is not enough time for it to really work
2) he should have at least placed a towel under my neck
3) you do not take off on a customer who is paying 80 bucks for basically a trim and blow dry
4) isn't the usual process for a treatment to have someone sitting up with a towel around their head and offered a magazine at least?
I let the owner lora know about what happened and she to me
"ummm well do you think it was a lack of communication?"
is she kidding? A sore neck has a lot more to do with then that and she did not even mention to me-well come in -the next cut will be on us-I still have a sore neck a week later-can't swim-she needs to take control of her salon-if they are to remain competitive-theres other salons down the street-
if my visit was shown to that tv woman who goes into salons to fix them she would have been shocked,
did I even mention the wet floor-having been mopped a minute before i came? Or that one doesn't know where to put their bags?
no help or direction is given
Does anyone know what type of Dye they use and Toner though?
Cut's are expensive for short hair/Men at fringe. $65. That's the only downfall I can find at Fringe.
u r a great salon but u need to change ur products as it damaged my hair :(
I have long hairs uoto my waist but now they got very thin and turning to grey now. they are really damaged and dry , :( I dont know why because of stress, food, or water of here. i am immigrant over here and I donot want to cut my hairs even not a use of scissor for my hair due to religious proposes. I found your salon after searching and hope that you could able to do anything with my hairs to manage it and make me look okk.
Thanks
Am never coming bak nor recommending ur salon :(
Ps. My hair is extremely damaged and dry from ur products!
Baaaaaad experiencE
ANYWAY, I went to Lora and she gave it a complete 180. I don't think I've ever been more satisfied with a haircut before. She was quick, friendly ,knowledgable and understood exactly what I wanted. All at a reasonable price.
Thanks, Lora! Will be stopping by in August.
