Coupe BizzarreMontreal/Toronto studio Coupe Bizzarre sits on Queen St W split between #704 and #710. Which might mean a quick game of "where's my hair stylist today", but they're a talented team and worth finding.

hey, according to now magazine(or eye can't recall)..this was voted best salon in t.o...also read rocky was a great stylist...my hair is sebastian bach-like in length and colour(highlights)..i'm looking for a cut..well the way it was cut 4 years ago..i'll compare the cut to the singer from goo goo dolls..or bon jovi's layered cut in the 90's....it's relatively healthy even though it hasn't been trimmed in 4 years...it's past my tits now(I'm a guy by the way)...i would like it highlighted as well...anyone get this cut at coupe who can recommend a stylist..i'm a little hesitant when it comes to hair-cuts..you never know...i learned that after a trip to house of lords years ago....

one word.. pretentious.. Any salon that puts their receptionist in a saucer is not my kind of place. Next time, please don't eyeball my outfit as I walk in and judge me before I open my mouth. Thanks. Yes, I am the one that walked in , then walked right out

i love waht they did to my hair it was great, maybe some people don't like what they do with there hair but i luv it , it's called style! i love the service they call you by your first name and they always try to have a conversation, i love the way marcus and mandy work, i'm happy my godmother took me here but i wanted to know how much a haircut is ... hmm..

coupe bizzarre team on March 19, 2009 at 9:43 PM

Diane,
do we have to mention that you obsessively called the salon, called a few members of the staff by insulting names, and you tried to get an adjustment for your cut a month after you had it done???? not to forget you were 30 minutes late for it and we took you anyways... (we usually dont accept people if they re 20 minutes late) and you asked if someone could call your lunch appointment? and said the haircut took 2h30 when it took an hour to the most..
i wonder who is not to be recommended...!
we are hairstylist, talented and human.
thank you!

I'll admit it. I've been a Coupe whore for quite a few years now. My love affair started in high school when I had a cute cheerleader bob complete with bangs by Larry. I wasn't too enthused with his work so I let it grow out and then tried Sarah. She gave me an undercut which I wasn't crazy about. Then I finally found Isabell, whom I adored but after a few cuts with her talented hands she left me for Vidal. I was heartbroken. I refused to follow her due to the ridiculous price points at Vidal. As a student I was poor.(Actually I still am.) Then a friend recommended that I go to Donna. She's amazing, love, love, love her work. I have never been dissatisfied with anything she's done. And neither has my hair. For anyone who's read this, she's the best they've got!

Anonymous on March 31, 2009 at 1:49 PM

This is one of the most unprofessional places. I think my stylist was drunk. Worst haircut ever!

Krista on April 2, 2009 at 10:41 PM

I used to go get my hair cut by Brionie. When I called to book an appointment they told me she'd left and won't tell me if she's still cutting hair.
Does anyone know if she's still cutting? I've had other cuts at coupe but she was the best!
Thanks.

When your hair is thin and fine like mine, you cherish every strand and are extreeeemely careful about who cuts your precious hair. I think Shawna has the magic touch. Coupe Bizarre, 704 Queen St. W. She suggests the best cut but always gives me what I ask for and doesn't cut too much off. Love that girl! Love the cuts! Finally a stylist that cares as much about my hair as I do.

thanx for the compliment. i am now working at Brennen Demelo at 316 Adelaide west. 416-301-1072 ask for me!

Melissa De Melo on May 5, 2009 at 2:19 PM

I love the way Adam cuts my hair! I will go back every three months. This place rocks!!

vvn on May 5, 2009 at 10:23 PM

Thank God for blogs... I wouldn't have known where to find you Shawna! Are you at the Chop Shop?

Jennifer on May 14, 2009 at 11:57 AM

Vince has never let me down. In fact, he is cutting my hair today. That said, you don't want to be my age (over fifty) unless you're prepared to be annoyed by some of the calculated indifference, the preciousness, and that god-awful endless thumping they call music.

Blackwidow on May 23, 2009 at 9:04 AM

I have really come to dislike this salon. Have gone many times to get my haircut there, and it is hit and miss. Even by the same stylist (have only tried 2), I think it depends on her mood as to whether or not I got a good cut. There is no way I could go anywhere after leaving there, other than home, because they don't clean the hair from my face and often it isn't even styled. I haven't gone back in quite some time, and don't intend to.

And agree, the music is awful.

bb on May 24, 2009 at 12:44 PM , replying to a comment from jake dallas

I'd try the Brennen Demelo salon on Adelaide... a couple of blocks east of Spadina. I'm a chic but my style is similar and the new girl with long blonde hair (name?) got it right for me last week!

bitchola on May 24, 2009 at 12:51 PM , replying to a comment from Blackwidow

to Blackwidow...

That's exactly why I like brennen demelo... you don't have to tolerate the nasty vibe —neither attitude nor music. I like a little respect and think I deserve it ;) and... the shops are awesome 2 blocks up on Queen/Spadina... I got the best deals on cute cute stuff cause the shops will lower prices if you ask!!! unbelievable!

bitchola on May 24, 2009 at 12:58 PM , replying to a comment from shawna

I'll ask for you too Shawna... I have the same issues... they always want to do what they want and disapprove when I tell them what I want. The last thing I want is to piss them off and risk an oopsie with the scissors. That's not fun! AND I get even MORE attitude for the next hour while I struggle to make nice. enuff o' that shit

cattattack on June 13, 2009 at 12:17 PM

I'll be honest, I'm going there today and I'm shitting my pants.
Sort of torn between all of your oppinions here.
I've wanted to cut my hair short for ages, and I've gone back to get it fixed a couple of times.
I hope it doesn't get fucked. I don't know who I'm going to, as in which stylist, and I don't want my mother to die of an early heart attack.
-sigh- oh shit.

Sara on June 16, 2009 at 11:29 AM , replying to a comment from cattattack

I had my haircut by Amy. She was great. Absolutely no attitude and she knew exactly what I wanted. She was recommended tome by a few of my co workers, one has been seeing her for 9 years! I will go back for sure!!

Brig on July 2, 2009 at 1:52 PM

If you have CURLY hair, you know how a bad haircut is devastating! Curly hair takes SO long to grow out and cutting it the way you cut straight hair just doesn't make sense. NICOLE is fantastic and knows exactly what to do with curly hair - she cuts your hair when it's dry so she knows how your curls fall and how much they shrink (from wet to dry). She is so careful and I always feel like a pin-up girl when I leave her/there! For BEST results, style your hair as you normally would (leave it down, of course). She will be able to work with a style that is manageable to you if you do this. Thanks Nicole!

Wooow on July 9, 2009 at 10:54 PM , replying to a comment from coupe bizzarre team

Okay, if you work at the salon, aren't you breaching some kind of anonymous thing? I'm pretty sure it's unprofessional to go on a website and blab about your clients, and in most work places it's not tolerated. So far from what I can tell, this salon sucks, the stylists are rude, and not to mention most seem to have left? I wonder why... Go to a professional place to get your hair done people, not some trashy place which trash talks their clients over a website. Personally, I go to Fiorio. Amazing service, and very friendly people. You stylist is always taking your opinion into matter, and suggesting what they think is best as well.

Wooowie on July 14, 2009 at 4:32 PM , replying to a comment from Wooow

Apparently they leave bad reviews about other salons and good one's about themselves.

J on July 19, 2009 at 2:36 AM

worst hair cut in years.

wurdup on July 20, 2009 at 10:18 PM

went to coupe (after hearing it was THE spot in the west to get yer hair did) on a Friday night. Got a good cut...however...there was no hair washing involved, none what so ever...my hair was dirrrty. So I proceeded to go home...wash and re-style my hair, then went out. A little ridiculous when you are short for time and are paying 55-70 bucks for a 'hair experience'.

CC on July 21, 2009 at 2:26 PM

I tried Coupe because of it being rated in the top 10 salons in TO. I was unsure of what to expect because of some reviews posted here.
However, my cut is fantastic and my colour is great. I have to add, I chose Coupe to fix a highlighting slop job I had done at a very well known Yorkville salon (master colour tech too!).
So, to get a great haircut according to what you want, honest consultation and dead on colour, I recommend Coupe.

jake dallas on July 22, 2009 at 9:35 PM

hey folks..(everyone)..thanx for all the feed-back...almost seems like i started a bit of a "war"..you know..hair-salon "war"...maybe the answer i was looking for????...maybe you can't say a salon is great..or horrible..but rather the "stylists"(specifically)...i guess it's a hit and miss deal...i still haven't cut the hair...but from what i'm reading/viewing in magazines..it's a "hippie"-like summer anyways....hey..anyone get their hair cut bt Marco coi(eeehhh..is this a proper medium to be asking this question..all apologies..if i'm out of line..asking this question on a coupe bizarre "site"...anyways...uhm...it(hair does...grow back...we've all been through bad experiences no doubt at salons...so...have a great summer everyone...i guess the safest option is..."let it grow..and grow..."(i.e robert plant...sebastian bach)....rock'n'roll....!!!!!!!!!

May on July 24, 2009 at 9:23 PM

Horrible. Do not go here for colour. Went there once, asked the guy to do natural highlights for my hair. I have med-dark brown hair. I did NOT mention the word blonde to him~ I told him I would be happy with a caramel brown colour highlight only a few shades lighter than my natural hair colour. I told him that I HATE high contrast, I was going for subtlety and shimmer. He seemed to understand what I was talking about. An hour later, I had dark brown hair with white- blonde highlights. It looked horrible.

A few months later I decided to try out highlights again. Someone had mentioned to me that they went to Coupe Bizarre and got great colour. Her hair looked subtle so I trusted and thought I would give it another chance. Called them to make an appoint, when I called, just to be sure, I said, "Can the stylist do subtle, natural looking highlights?" The person on the phone said yes.

Lo and behold...... SAME thing happens to me AGAIN!! Will never go here again. I guess if you want like blue or red hair, they are the place for you, but if you want elegant, natural looking colour, save your money!!

Ps. They are way expensive, on top of it all!!

Linda on August 3, 2009 at 8:12 AM

A friend of mine who lives in the east end has been going there for 10 years, to Amy. She recommended her, even though I would also have to schlep across the city to get there. It was worth the trip. Amy was excellent. Yes, the couches are hardly sink-in comfortable, and the decor is a bit of pretension mixed with a fashion-conscious star trek set gone wrong, but the receptionist was friendly, and Amy was super. I went to her, happily paying what she charged (I can't remember now), until I moved out of the city. I'm still thinking of her, and wondering if I should drive in 100km just to have her cut my hair again!

rob on August 14, 2009 at 10:56 AM

worst - attitudes - ever

do not waste your time and money on Douche Bizarre - too kool for skool

if they understood that clients are precious they might survive, but they don't and they won't

there's no soul in their rock n roll

stay away

bud on August 18, 2009 at 7:32 PM , replying to a comment from Anonymous

My daughter saved her money for months for a cut and color here only to be disappointed by a very uncool stylist...

Coupe Bizarre - you are meant to be all about image/style but there isn't anything cool about behaving like an idiot in the company of young impressionable teenager! Of course "to each their own" but have the decency to accept that speaking about sex,drugs,rock/roll may not be what young people need encouragement with( here's a tip - why not speak about art, music or fashion in a more positive way).

I plead to the owners (whom may or may not have children) not to tolerant this poor example from their staff as it will eventually give your business trouble !!!

holly on August 29, 2009 at 9:35 PM

I dont know about this place. Not to crazy about it. I used to be into really crazy hair cuts so i went here expecting something awesome and got my hair chopped in every direction and didnt look great. It was okay though.

jack on August 31, 2009 at 8:24 PM

I moved back to TO this year after 7years away and was sad to see that this salon had not altered it's style one bit. The white decor seems "2000 millennium" and so were the cuts! After my recent haircut here for "old times sake" I realize that somethings in TO never change!!! Coupe get some fresh style as the only thing bizarre is the millennium theme!!!

Christina on September 20, 2009 at 1:08 PM

I cut my hair here twice. I went to cut a pretty basic bob. Nothing crazy. I was satisfied, but nothing really special. What I didn't really like was that they straightened my hair BEFORE they cut it. Personally, I don't think that this is a really great technique b/c I want a cut that compliments my natural hair texture, I do not straighten my hair every day. It was a very nice cut both times, but once I washed it, it was just o.k.

Other than that I had very nice stylists but I don't think this was the salon for me. I felt a little out of place. lol.

Nikkita on October 12, 2009 at 10:43 AM

I am having a haircut with Nicole at Coupe on Friday. I have so far, been recommended by several other stylists (I am also a stylist) that she gives a fabulous cut that I will love every time. I have my color done at my own shop but we do not do cuts there. It is hard to find someone who can cut a-symmetrical Avant Garde Hairstyles. I will write in about my experience once I have had the cut. So far, I spoke to the reception, she was accommodating, very friendly and she told me all of Nicole's open dates available this week. She was very kind, and said she looks forward to seeing me Friday! I liked that...

Nikkita on October 12, 2009 at 10:47 AM , replying to a comment from Christina

That is a pretty standard procedure (straightening before cutting a bob)so the lines are perfect for when you do straighten it. Bobs are a tricky cut for someone who has curly hair if they plan on wearing it both ways. I agree something to match your natural texture is always the best way to go, Bobs don't really match the curly hair type always unfortunately. Do you mind me asking who cut your hair? I am going for my first time on Friday.

christina on October 12, 2009 at 12:45 PM , replying to a comment from Nikkita

I don't remember who my hairstylist was, but she had really short platimnum blonde hair that was shaved on the sides.\

I've been to a few hair salons in my lifetime and in my experience I don't think it's standard procedure to straighten before you cut. I also have straight hair to begin with so what they did at coupe was really pointless. I found a good hair salon now (Cooney for Hair) and he would never straighten before he cut. I suppose its just different techniques, but I personally didn't like the techniques used at coupe. it was alright but nothing special enough to make me go back.

anonymous on October 28, 2009 at 12:22 AM

got my hair cut by a guy here back in the spring (i don't know his name). all i know is - i had super long hair before and he got too creative - and months later my hair still barely touches my shoulders. left in tears and shaking.
