Baby On the HipBaby On the Hip is an eco-minded baby boutique in Leslieville that keeps it green. With a focus on environmentally-friendly, locally-sourced and "back to basics" merchandise (they avoid battery-powered baby gadgets), Baby on the Hip offers a chance to buy things that are good for baby and the planet at the same time. They also run workshops and are one of the few stores with an online registry service.

I found this store to be delicious on the eyes, but the customer service is terrible. I have been ignored every time I've been in. I'm very obviously pregnant and would normally expect to be offered help or advice, or even greeted when I walk in for that matter. It's a small store and I've often been the only customer in there with two staff who neglect my interest in their $500+ strollers. Too bad too. I really was interested in one of the strollers, I just won't buy it there.

WoW! I've had the complete opposite experience! I've been in the store several times and have always found the girls to be super friendly and knowledgeable. They are not in your face (which i like!!), but anytime I have a question they're attentive and helpful. Maybe you just had bad luck? In any case, I want people to know that this was not my experience at all :)

This store is in my neighborhood and I shop here all the time - usually for the BPA-free & glass bottles. I find I can ask the staff anything about the products and the world of toxins and they are right on top of things. Their selection of eco-friendly and non toxic products are often hard to find at any other store in the city.

Hmmm... every time I have been there I am quite impressed with how well researched and helpful the staff are! Unfortunate that you had a bad experience, but don't scratch it off your list of places to shop just yet... the products they carry are worth a second trip!

Baby on the Hip is my neighbourhood baby store. I love the products they carry! I go there frequently and have always received great customer service. The store has a very relaxed atmosphere and I feel I can browse at leisure without any pressure from the staff. When I have questions about any of the products the staff have always been very helpful and knowledgeable. I have also attended a number of the workshops they have organized and have found them to be a great source of information. This is a great independent community store.

LOVE this store!!!! After visiting the store I created an online registry with them.... so glad that I don't have to register at those big box baby stores.

Are we talking about the same store? I live in the neighbourhood and I've been shopping at baby on the hip since it opened, first with my 2 year old, and now with my 4 month old. The staff have spent hours with me on occasion going over carriers and cloth diaper options, and I've always felt they were extremely knowledgeable. A few of the staff even know my kids' names and always greet them when they come in.

Just visited both baby and kid on the hip. Totally not impressed. The staff at kid on the hip didn't offer any help.

The best baby store on Queen E. is Little Peeps, the just opened but every time I visit they have new stuff and they are almost too friendly, I ended up buying a beautiful tutu and cape as a gift for a 4 year old!

I love Baby on the Hip! It is quite expensive but every time I've gone in, the owner and staff have been so helpful and don't bother me constantly.

Curious question though: Does anyone know what happened to Kids on the Hip, the sister store up the street?

Baby on the Hip, the worst experience I have ever had. The customer service was terrible. Two ladies worked there ignore us all the time. When we had questions, they gave us attitude. I know they are eco friendly but not really human friendly.

Great store!! Been shopping here for years and the girls are for the most part fantastic...lots of new faces there right now but still finding them friendly! I'd encourage people to check it out for themselves:)

Baby on the hip is also my neighborhood baby store. Worst customer service, specially for a baby store!
The ladies seem almost bothered when I ask a question. I love their products but the attitude not so much!... Even my husband noticed how stuck up the women are!

Thank goodness I discovered little peeps, The owner is very friendly, which baby on the hip employees are lacking.

Hold your breath folks, the change in tone at the store may be attributed to a recent change in ownership. Went in again last week and found out that the original owners are soon to be gone from the operations. Maybe better or worse things are in store.

I stopped in at the new west-end location today and was really quite impressed. The store still has some renovations under way - light fixtures to be installed, etc. (though I was told they only opened two days earlier, and had some minor setbacks)but it is really a lovely space. The staff were so friendly, not pushy or in-your-face, and seemed quite knowledgeable. There was a good vibe, nice music playing, it was bright and I ended up spending almost an hour and a half chatting with the staff, and having my questions answered about a few products. I got some info on their cloth diapering workshop and bought some bath toys and an adorable towel, but have plans to come back and check out carriers and strollers.

I would really recommend it - the price point in a bit higher, but the quality of the products and the highly-knowledgeable staff make up for it. Two thumbs up!

Visited the Leslieville store yesterday. It has a decent variety of merchandise, but the customer service left something to be desired. We were mostly ignored, and when we asked for help, the one employee didn't really know about the merchandise (names, prices, etc).

Prices seem okay in terms of comparing to online and other stores in town.

I have a love/hate relationship with this store. At first glance many of their products are very expensive, but there are many eco/organic items that are reasonably priced.

My biggest pet peeve is popular items being constantly out of stock. They're horrible at updating their website. This worked in my favour though as I came to buy something onsale that I saw online. They told me it wasn't on sale anymore, and I told them to check their website. I got the discount :)

I did my registry there, and the sales girl helping me was amazing. So nice and took a good 45min helping me make our registry, she was awesome. But I think I lucked out, because every other time I've been to the store I have found the staff very rude, and stuck up.

I believe they're trying to improve though, as I heard that they're getting people to evaluate their shopping experiences there.

I have been to the new college location twice and both of my experiences there have been lovely. The sales girls were very nice. Hopefully they won't get tainted by the bad vibes of the other girls...

I agree on the store is constantly out of stock. Not impressed with the customer service. The merchandise is so so I have bought a few items. I prefer Kol Kid, much better selection and taste.

I guess they just treat Asians differently. Had the same cold treatment when i waddled in. Not even a smile or nod my way. Took my business elsewhere.
