n modern life, defining one’s identity has become dependent on the images, information and realities received from screens and it has led to a culture disconnected from the world and one another. Like a Generation examines Generation Y’s place in history in terms of its relationship to the screen. Using a combination of direct address, clowning, media, sampled images and heightened movement the show follows the journey of three characters as they search for meaning in the post-modern era. Through their inescapable connection to various screens and media, they travel back to previous stages of their life, seeking to understand their lost innocence and their entanglement in the playfulness and joy of the Disneyesque cartoon characters that so influenced them. All the while the media stare back at them, trying continually to subvert and warp the fragile truths that might remain. Created by Blue Bigwood-Mallin, Susannah Mackay, Max Tepper and Eric Welch through the method of devised theatre, each member of the production brings their own experience as a member of this generation to dissect and articulate these new ways through which we have to view the world.
