FEAST IN THE EAST 21: Yacht Club + Digits + Beta Frontiers + MIss Elizabeth

FEAST IN THE EAST is a monthly east end music, food & installation series.

This month features a FREE dinner by Dan Bedard.

YACHT CLUB (http://yclub.bandcamp.com/)
Ben Cook (of Fucked Up fame) brings his aptly named yacht rock project to the east. Smooth vocals interlope with synth tones as they pierce through silky guitar licks. Like taking a bath in simple syrup, but your bathroom is actually the a jungle themed wing of a shopping mall.

DIGITS (http://www.digitsmusic.com/)
Toronto/Berlin self made electronic pop star gets personal, with heavy synth lines and flowing airy vocals that breeze and almost rap over hand clap/bleep & bloop percussion. Pop compositions that are reminiscent of the very best of the 80's synth work, and the obscure sexiness of good disco records. Hints of kraut ideas flourishes in dance ambient breaks. Who knew pop music could still be interesting? Apparently this guy! Believe the hype!

BETA FRONTIERS (http://betafrontiers.com/)
Toronto electro rap crew Beta Frontiers hit it hard with some handclap post-kraftwerk inspired beats under raw raps. Half borrowed from 80's new wave, half from late 90's true rave, Beta Frontiers' pump up the electro dance tapestry with some shit that sounds like it belongs in Tron (the original) or some cool space fighter game for SNES.

MISS ELIZABETH (http://misselizabeth.bandcamp.com/)
Shoegaze synth pop duo creates some music that you think would generally be way more dissonant, but is actually quite inviting. Warm synth tones & soft vocals glide over drum machine scatterings & layers of textural fuzz, slowly evolving into synthesized orchestral arrangements. Fun party music if you like Joy Division, or New Order for that matter.
