WE ARE NATURE- New work by EGR

In a miracle of chance and timing, the universe aligning for a fraction of a millisecond, Flylets are born. The cycle of life continues for the once rural, now urban Flylet. The tainted soil has morphed the cels of its being. Flylets born near toxic pools of industrial waste have been bred in rainbow colors. Flylets know that their ancestors once thrived off the natural landscape, but my, how times have changed.

As an artist, I am interested in the notion that we are depleting Mother Earth's natural resources at such an alarming rate, the world cannot begin to heal itself in our lifetime. We need to realize that we can make a change, however small, leaving nothing behind and finding happiness in a simpler life. My characters express this devastating damage in their delicate, fragile form and struggle for survival and solace. It is nature vs. urban sprawl; the impact that our modern lifestyle has on our personal psyche and how these changes effect our well being as individuals as well as a culture. I call my characters Flylets, and they are the first to show the signs of human toxic takeover and pollution of our natural sphere, like the mutant butterflies emerging from Japan.

Artist Bio:

Through graffiti, EGR challenges archaic perceptions of women, by portraying physically powerful women in nature. She acutely delves into women’s place in the world in a metaphorical framework, which she spray paints on any given surface.

With the use of aerosol spray paint, EGR sentimentally portrays women with a bit of nostalgia and much beauty. Her work pays homage to fairy tales, by colliding head-on with futuristic, fantastical female characters and creatures that are either blessed or burdened by modern day convenience. Angelic fairies, reminisce the evolving roles of women in both industry and leisure. Through this exploration, EGR is discovering the challenges of renewed perceptions of faith, mental well being and female empowerment.
