GOETHE FILMS @ TIFF Bell Lightbox: Crash Course (Crashkurs)

Picking up the thematic threads of our first film program on Culture+Economy last fall, GOETHE FILMS @ TIFF Bell Lightbox presents a new cluster on crisis, greed and debt.

What happens when you lose your life savings?

The celebrated debut by German Film and Television Academy Berlin grad Anika Wangard is based on a true and very current story. Middle-class pensioners Eva and Alexander lose their entire life savings in the wake of the financial crisis.
“Wangard wants to show `what impact the global shake-up has on the small cosmos of a family´. For her film she chose the tonality of a tragic comedy and takes up a position without mutating into a political pamphlet.” Zeit Online

North American premiere

dir. Anika Wangard, Germany 2012, 80 min., HD, with English subtitles, with Monika Lennartz, Ulrich Voß and others
