Everyone's a DJ
Everyone's a DJ, the monthly party presented by local DJ Matt Blair and originally hosted at Tiger Bar, will celebrate a milestone with its tenth party on Saturday, 11 October 2008 at Disgraceland. As always, the night will feature a total of sixteen DJs - rookies and veterans alike - playing twenty-minute sets each. No experience is required, and music of all kinds is welcome.
Blair launched the series at Tiger Bar at the end of 2007, moving it to Disgraceland after the venue closed the following May. The night has earned a loyal following through word of mouth, and new DJs are never in short supply. Blair is currently working to attract more potential DJs from a broader range of local music scenes in order to push the night to a new, more diverse level.
The roster for this month's edition will be announced at mattblair.ca, Blair's personal website, as the event approaches. Some of the DJs appearing at this month's party are veterans, others are relatively new to the clubs, and a few have never spun in public before. Many of the performers who have appeared at Everyone's a DJ in the past have gone on to launch their own nights at other venues.
Everyone's a DJ is hosted on the second Saturday of every month. DJs are booked on a "first come, first served" basis, with a set number of spaces each month reserved for people who have never appeared at the series before. Details on each party will be listed at mattblair.ca, and all those who are interested in spinning at a future night are invited to get in touch via the website.
Disgraceland is located at 965 Bloor Street West, near Ossington Station. Matt Blair is a Toronto-based DJ whose past and present credits include Blow Up, Wavelength, Babylon Telecom, Yo! Remember the 90s?, Eat Your Greens, and the "Just" series of charity marathons hosted by Indiepolitik, the community organization that he founded in 2005.
