ARTIST TALK: An Intimate Evening with HAMRA ABBAS

Join us for a talk with Hamra Abbas, the rising young artist behind the work Read, a multi-media installation on display at the ROM until March 28. A suspended labyrinth-like wooden structure, concealing speakers playing the sound of children reciting the Qur'an as they memorize its verses, Abbas' installation Read offers a contemporary artist’s response to some of the themes arising from the ROM’s recent Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition. In her talk, Abbas will discuss her art and her experiences working with institutions around the world.

Born in Kuwait, Abbas now lives and works in Boston and Islamabad, Pakistan.

The talk is presented by the ICC in association with ROM Friends of South Asia and SAVAC (South Asian Visual Arts Centre).
