The Toronto Jazz Orchestra's annual Swing Thing
Get out your dancing shoes – it’s time for the Toronto Jazz Orchestra’s (TJO) annual “Swing Thing”.
The TJO and special guest vocalist Sophia Perlman will perform everything from Count Basie to Duke Ellington and Glen Miller as Swing Toronto hosts Charleston and Lindy Hop dance lessons at the Dovercourt House on Saturday, February 6, 2010.
“Swing Thing is the one night each year the Toronto Jazz Orchestra celebrates the very best of the Swing era,” says Josh Grossman, Artistic Director of the TJO. “We are always excited to team up with Swing Toronto to present the event.”
The evening of fun and dancing is the TJO’s top fundraising event of the year. Proceeds will support day-to-day expenses, rehearsal space, the purchase or commissioning of music and mailing expenses, as well as special projects, including recording and collaborations with guest artists.
The TJO is set to perform its annual Swing Thing with guest vocalist Sophia Perlman and Swing Toronto on Saturday, February 6, 2010 from 7pm to 1am at the Dovercourt House, 805 Dovercourt Road, on the third floor. Charleston lessons begin at 7pm; Lindy Hop lessons will follow at 8pm. Admission is $18 for one lesson and dancing until 1am – or, pay $20 for two lessons and “swinging” the night away. All tickets will be available on February 6 at the door.
