Free Friday Film! Grizzly Man
"In Nature, There Are, Boundaries."
Watch out this first Friday of November, for Grizzly Man. From acclaimed director Werner Herzog, who's known for his feature films and documentaries, comes a film that demands your attention not just because it's about some guy who has bears for friends.
Released in 2005, Grizzly Man follows in the last five years of bear expert/enthusiast Timothy Treadwell and his ardent explorations with his girlfriend to find peace, understanding and knowledge of grizzly bears and their natural environment. Intending to dedicate his life to understanding the beasts, Treadwell and his girlfriend's explorations is one that arguably leads to its ultimate destination- in the claws and bare teeth of his obsessive fascination. The film is also a wonderfully enlightening look into the intimate lives of bears in their unseen super-cuddly, cute and friendly ways (not to mention their carnal intensity...).
With retrospects from his family, friends and expert associates, Herzog examines Treadwell's eccentric intentions but also gives his own unique empathetic interpretation on the man's deathwish. Grizzly Man fittingly connects Treadwall's looney idealism with Herzog's bleak worldview to a maddening blend that is both obsessive and entertaining.
Balanced between the maniacal and the grandiose, the film is a fascinating study on where the opposite ends between man and beast are pulled together to their grizzly connections.
