Good Green Jobs for All conference
Imagine a good green jobs movement for all based on equity and social justice, environmental sustainability and the inclusion of young people. That’s the aim of a November 7th conference in Toronto where community, labour, social justice, youth, environmental groups and individuals will collaborate on a green vision for the Greater Toronto Area.
“The current economic system is not working for many Canadians,” says Nigel Barriffe, a co-chair of the Good Green Jobs For All conference. “This conference is about building a new movement for everyone including youth, First Nations and ethnic communities who have traditionally been left behind. This is a perfect time to build an inclusive, sustainable green economy.
The conference will confront the current economic and environmental crises and the need for equitable employment opportunities. “We’re inviting people to come and develop strategies and campaigns for a GTA green economy with jobs for all,” adds co-chair Carolyn Egan. “We’ll look at green infrastructure renewal, green manufacturing and access for marginalized youth to training and good entry level jobs.”
Keynote speakers will include: Aboriginal environmental activist Clayton Thomas-Muller; movement builder and Medina Collective member Tonika Morgan; and Peter Tabuns, former Executive Director of Greenpeace and currently MPP for Toronto Danforth.
The conference is being held at the CNE’s Allstream Building on November 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Located just inside the Prince’s Gate, the former Automotive Building has been refurbished to Silver LEEDS standard.
The registration fee is $75 and those interested can register on line at www.goodjobsforall.ca or call Ana Fonseca at 416-441-3663 x221.
