Friendly Rich and the Lollipop People CD Release
Friendly Rich Clips Mussorgsky’s Beard
On Saturday November 7th, Friendly Rich and his modern music ensemble, The Lollipop People will release their 4th studio recording at the Tranzac Club. The ensemble will not only perform Mr. Rich’s daring arrangement of Pictures at an Exhibition in its entirety, it will feature live theatrics produced by The Harmony Rainbow Group featuring Ulysses Castellanos.
“I’ve always wanted to take a stab at butchering an old classic” says Friendly Rich, “I really loved what those Russian composers were up to. Tchaikovsky, Mussorsgky, Rimsky-Korsakov were as integral a bearded power trio as RUSH in helping me develop my musical voice”.
Friendly Rich conducted an all-star lineup of musicians for this unique recording, including New York bassist Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, John Zorn); trombonist David Pell; harpsichordist/pianist Gregory Oh; synth player Erik Ross; drummer Sly Juhas; electric guitarist Nichol S. Robertson; harpist Kristen Theriault; accordionist Kimberley Pritchard; clarinetist Julia Hambleton; bassoonist Jeff Burke; percussionist Brandon Validivia; along with guest vocalists Christine Duncan and Paul Dutton.
The CD release show is Saturday, November 7th, 2009 at 8pm at the Tranzac Club, 292 Brunswick Ave in Toronto. Advance tickets are $10 and are available at Rotate This and Soundscapes (Sept. 20th). Tickets are $12 at the door.
