Dundas West
No longer just Little Portugal, Dundas West is one of Toronto's most overlooked micro-neighbourhoods. No worry. Better that locals don't need to fend off tourists at favourite spots like Musa, Ella's Uncle and The Communist Daughter. And while dining and drinking are definitely on the agenda here, a walk east to west wouldn't be complete without ogling at the Canadian furniture and designs at MADE, emerging artists on display at LE Gallery or stopping in for a trim at Grateful Head.

A notable omission from this entry is a much-favoured bookshop called The Monkey's Paw (mentioned recently in these very pages at http://tinyurl.com/ytef69). Really, now. It's right there on Dundas, in the thick of things.
I guess Magpie is lucky they don't have a page to link to, I've been yelling from the rooftops about the total shit experience I had there recently and have been looking for somewhere to post comments/warnings to others who don't enjoy getting treated like garbage by bored, slouchy indie staff who take themselves seriously and regard customers with utter contempt. Heard the food was good and vegetarian, didn't know I had to endure a gauntlet of Toronto-tude to eat it. Never did get a menu or so much as glance from the bartender who was overseeing a completely empty room. I guess I wasn't wearing the right shoes or my jeans weren't tight enough or something.
