Home Craft Decor

Posted by James Buttivant / Posted on December 17, 2010

Home Craft DecorHome Craft Decor, having moved one door east into the former space of macFAB fabrics at Queen and Bathurst is a fun, mishmash of furniture and design styles, certain to thrill anyone on the hunt or in the mood to browse. With tables, chairs and tables arranged and stacked in a hodgepodge manner, the showroom has a bit of a flea market feel to it.

Home Craft DecorThe institutional lighting overhead does nothing to the ambience, but shopping at Home Craft Decor is kind of fun. Some pieces are ugly, some pieces are blah, but some pieces are really great - and at great prices, it's the digging and discovering that make places like Home Craft Decor totally worth it.

Home Craft DecorIt's impossible to pin down the design aesthetic, because this store has bits and pieces of everything. I saw sleek leather couches, overstuffed Italian side chairs, antique armoires and buffets, and modern minimalist bed frames and dining tables.

Home Craft DecorI liked the bar-height dining table for four with glass top for $860 and the chic glass top writing desk with metal legs at $595, marked down from $890. Many of the items are practical and while some are a bit cheap looking, there are a lot of gems in this pile of furniture, so there is a payoff to keep looking.

Home Craft DecorSomething about dining tables in furniture stores always stand out to me, so I was pleased that they have the same random selection of tables as they do everything else. Some tables would fit in perfectly with my Grandma and her canasta-playing friends. Other tables look so sophisticated that I would be too intimidated to eat at them.

Home Craft DecorSome of my favourites included a $799 handsome, dark wood dining table for six and a $695, wooden round table. Of course, Home Craft Decor isn't the type of store that has specific inventory, so these might be gone in the next visit.

Home Craft DecorDownstairs, the basement goes quite deep and has even more of a sampling of assorted furniture and design styles. There are lots of mirrors and artwork too, so in theory I could decorate my entire home from this place - I wouldn't, of course, because this type of random design aesthetic would likely look a lot less charming in my home than in the showroom.

Home Craft DecorI also had to laugh at some of the original design and accent pieces sprinkled throughout the store. Clearly, somebody has a thing for ceramic animals. I noted a sheep, monkey, lion, cat and alligator throughout the store. If the store wasn't random - and enjoyable - enough, somebody had to go sprinkle decorative animals all over everything. I loved it. The alligator, by the way, is $475.

i agree with the first poster. of all the stores in Toronto trying to make a go of offering well designed, well made furniture and home decor items, BlogTo shines the lime light on this plunk?!

you can find any of these poorly produced, tasteless and ubiquitous items through-out the GTA and any number of dodgy discount furniture shops.

BRUTAL...why even write about this. Garbage furniture and HORRIBLY merchandised. With morba folks going to Castlefield and Mac Fab checking out to the East there is absolutely no reason to visit Queen & Bathurst for home decor whatsoever anymore

The worst experience that we have ever had with any business was with Home Craft Decor this past Saturday. My wife and I bought a chair from the store at closing time on Saturday. We took the chair home and it did not work in the space for which we got it. We took it back to the store first thing the next day. We got to the store as they were opening; the guy saw us coming and quickly told us that he is not giving us a refund because they have a no refund policy, and it was our responsibility to inquire about the policy before buying the chair!! Words cannot begin to express how disgustingly rude they were as they refused to give us our money back and insisted that we take something else from the store. They told us to take them to court because they will not give us our money back. I am a lawyer and I have decided for the heck of it to take them to Small Claims Court! Terrible terrible business run by pushy, aggressive and incredibly RUDE people!

My husband and I are very reasonable people. We like to support independently run businesses. Because of this, when we realized that this store was run by a family, we wanted to support them by purchasing a chair for our home. When we took the chair home and it did not work in our space we decided that we would return it first thing the next morning. When we brought the chair back, the son of the store owner got into a huge argument with us rudely telling us that there were no refunds and that he did not care that we were unhappy with our purchase or with the way in which he was dealing with the situation. Given the way that things were handled we will need to take them to court as we still have not received our refund and have had no other compensation. This was the WORST customer service and scammiest business I have ever encountered. Needless to say, we are extremely disappointed and will be discouraging anyone from spending their time or money in this place.

Kerry and Marlon, all small businesses have a no return policy's because if they did people like you guys will take furniture for a few days, show it off to your friends and bring it back for your money. This would leave the store broke therefore they offer store credit which is fair.It is your fault that you did not like the chairs, next time you will know better. I'm sure their recite said "no returns so stop making useless blogs to ruin a family business.I have been to this store a few times and bought 2 bar stools that i'm still happy with. This store is great with good services and alright prices. All of the furniture stores on queen st have no return polices so stop embarrassing yourself. Please let me know if you got your refund and what happened in court ? If anything you two are the scammers.

THE QUALITY IS SO CHEAP AND THEY ARE SO UNPROFESSIONAL.STAY AWAY FROM HOME CRAFT
they are the worst furniture store that I have ever dealt with.they are scam.we bought six chairs and after 2 months the filing inside the chairs began to show through on the fabric which basically ruin the chairs and there was no solution to the problem without replacing them.we brought this to the attention of the very arrogant and rude owner and they refused to acknowledge our situation and just basically they didn't want to deal with it.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE!!!

HORRIBLE FURNITURE AND SERVICE!!!

They are so nice in the beginning. Tell you not to worry and that the furniture is top notch. I get the furniture. The screws for the furniture aren't even close to being proper for it. They say to go to Home Depot to get the proper screws. The furniture is defected cause its warped and chipping. Refund right? NO REFUND even when the furniture is defected. So much bull crap went on after that. Now I'm stuck with crappy furniture.

This place is total garbage, they sold me a chair and got fooled it was original, they should be sued for using the designers name even on receipts and display. I can't even return the chair I bought.

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!

THE OWNERS ARE TRYING TO RIP PEOPLE OFF WITH CHEAP MADE IN CHINA FURNITURE AT DESIGNER PRICES.

Was initially quoted a price and when finalizing the sale, they changed their mind and doubled the price!

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! STAY AWAY!
