It must have been my unlucky day, but I took a tart home for a snack, and when I unwrapped it and took the first bite, something was terribly wrong. I inspected, and there was a patch of mold about the area of a quarter growing on top of the tart. I guess I didn't see it before I put it in my mouth because I wasn't looking that hard-- certainly wasn't expecting that!
I thought it must have been a horrible fluke, so I actually returned to this place a few months later with a visiting aunt and cousins (my fault). This time there was no mold, but the pastries we ate were stale. I was embarrassed, as I had just gone on and on about living in the middle of Little Poland with "fresh" baked goods in every bakery. Being relatively new to the neighborhood, I hadn't yet discovered my now favorite bakery (cough cough, it's not far from this one).
But, like I said earlier, perhaps others have had better luck.
I've bought their doughnuts on two occasions, and both times they were stale, and had next to no filling in them.
I sometimes show up at a minute after 9:00 and if she is working there that day, this particular one woman grudgily opens the door for me (late) commenting in polish on how obtrusive it is to her to serve me at the opening time; that she comes in at 9:00 and she will not start working a second before that... It happened also to me on other occasion that I would discover only once I got home that the paczki she sold me were old.
I would bet that this one person is giving this place the bad name -- seems like she must be full of nostalgia for Communism; well at least that's how you were served over there is those times and staff like her would not be above cheating to make a few extra pennies. Too bad the owner seems to be unaware of this behaviour -– should fire her.
Their product is OK otherwise and paczki, as long as the staff sell you fresh ones, are good.
Prices are the lost I've seen for deli meats on the street.
You try and tell me. They also have a Mississauga location called Krakow
