Golden Mint Coffee + Tea Co.
Golden Mint Coffee & Tea Co. has been a family owned business since 2005, and now has two Toronto locations (911 Yonge Street & 439A Yonge Street). The shop offers a variety of food, beverages, and tea and coffee accessories.
Their coffee and tea selection includes options for both hot and cold days, such as iced flavoured lattes ($4.30), café lattes ($3.15), chai lattes ($3.75), or an assortment of freshly steeped loose-leaf tea that comes in a 16 ounce cup (starting at $1.90). They also have a variety of smoothies such as tropical craze, mango tango, or very berry ($4.25).
When it comes to their loose-leaf tea variety, I have the option of choosing from up to 150 types. Their selection includes Black, Green, Herbal, Rooibos, and Chai tea. Some of the more unique flavours include the Mint Chocolate Rooibos, or Pumpkin Festival Black tea.
Their food selection consists of sweet treats and a small quick serve sandwich menu. I'm most impressed by the chocolate for sale which is featured on display by the cash register. "These are Belgian chocolate treats made here in our store," the storekeeper tells me. Some include chocolate truffles and chocolate apples dipped in caramel.
The lunch food offered is mainly bagels and spread, with options like butter ($1.25) cream cheese ($2.45), peanut butter ($1.50), or guacamole ($2.45). They also have grilled Panini, such as black forest ham ($4.99), grilled vegetable ($4.99) or turkey breast ($4.99).
Unique to their shop is some of their interesting tea-wear. While they have an assortment of tea sets, my favourite is their specialty teapots imported from England called "eccentric teapots," which are teapots made in unique and unorthodox shapes.
Unfortunately, their seating is pretty limited, as there's only one table for seating, with the addition of a bar/stool facing the main street...but apparently the other location has more variety.

I don't know what the deal is here. A bit of money went into this joint for sure. The female baristas who took my barely drank drink weren't in the least bit interested why I didn't drink it. I ordered a lemonade or iced tea - I forget - and it was very good. But the coffee, a macchiato, was horrible and not properly made. Okay, What's proper? It wasn't up to culinary coffee standards. But if that's not what the owners are striving for, then I guess you can't say too much about it. But it wasn't drinkable either.
If they're "not interested in promotion" then why do they have a website? http://www.goldenmint.com/contact.htm
I don't understand the place or its management and, considering all the nearby competition, wonder how they stay in business.
If saying 'hello' and being genuinely interested in your regular's lives is over the line... well let's just through the concept of comfortable independent coffee shop.
Stray away, their coffee is just as cold as they are.
