Dear Ezra,
I just sent several of your links to one of our graduate students in Toronto. I know she would really appreciate your wonderful place. I certainly hope to have an opportunity to come by one of these times. The decor looks fabulous and the food fare sounds mouth-watering. It is so great to see your many talents come forth, Ezra. My heartiest congratulations to you. Hugs ... "Mama" Ilona

I see they're opening a new location directly across the street from Ella's Uncle. Hm.

I think it will be good competition to Ella, I quite honest like Ezra better, if it remains like his Dupont location. Ella's patron just like to nose around, someone told me they went to their cafe all the way on Palmerston just to see the prices, to know what they're selling and didn't even introduce themselves...get a grip.
Good luck to the POUND.

Have to say i think its a sad commentary when a small business owner goes in directly across the street of another small independent business owner.....more along the style of Starbucks really. Not sure thats the way to find success. I no longer live in the west end but will make a point of stopping at Ellas now just to support the original pioneers.

This isn't much of a review - and they have much to offer here! French-inspired organic café, not a huge menu but lite fare like baguette, cheese, fruit, eggs. And wifi!

i agree that there are alot of great cafes in the city ,south of bloor st.but has anyone really researched the history of cafes and coffee shops in the whole city....any idea anyone...theres surly a great deal of awesome cafes or coffee shops in the city and some are also located that have never had a write up or any type of public notice....these are cafes or coffee shope that have been around for the last 40 years and still going strong.but they get no regoniction becuase the mass coffee commuters and coffee snobs are all living downtown so no one visits north of bloor st... go try them out then do the comparessing in quality of coffee becuase design is just design but at the end of the day costumers that can say ..that was a great latte or coffee or espresso ,its what counts in the real coffee world.i go around the city and check out coffee houses and cafes becuase its what i love to do everyday...and that is make my costumers great coffee....just a word from your sponsor....

Ezra is class all around. His coffee is outstanding--we regularly go from our home near St Lawrence market just to enjoy his cappucino, croissants, and consistently first rate service.

Last night we went to the new patio on Dupont and loved it. The aesthetic is highly appealing, from the subtle garden lights to the towering sculpture of stacked patio chairs.

Both cafes are major additions to the city. If it means there are two good cafes nearby, so what? Monica, have you ever been to New York City? Or even Vancouver? Commercial Drive is chock a block full of excellent cafes, many right beside each other. What's the big deal?

Thanks Ezra. Honestly, you make Toronto a better place!

Sorry Monica, I should have addressed my comments to Shawn. By all means, if you want to remain at your favourite cafe you should do so. But for the rest of us, Ezra's is most welcome. As for 'original pioneers' Ezra is clearly part of a larger movement bringing more European quality cafes to the city. And who could complain about that.

Rude and condescending service, substandard and overpriced coffee.
Good location, good food, decent clientele (from what I could tell).

They close at five in the afternoon; when I asked a waiter why, he responded "Dude, I've been working for hours, we're tired." Very professional (?).

I used to love this place. It was pricy, but the cappuccinos were amazing. Recently, the sizes got WAY SMALLER and the prices got WAY HIGHER. Granted, I think this is only for the take out, but paying $4 to $5 for an "8 oz" cappuccino now is insane. Seriously, the cup is like the little cup you get at the dentist. Also, half the people working there now don't seem to know how to pull the cappuccino properly.

Yikes.
