Good Company
Good Company is a multifaceted business on Queen West that seamlessly integrates the concept of snack bar, cafe and barber shop within a single space, all tucked away behind an unassuming entrance.
Their modern yet rustic dining area is accented by a spacious L-shaped bar counter ideal for grabbing a coffee or cocktail. A variety of tables fill the rest of the space.
At the back of the space there's a hidden door guiding you to their second floor — a bright and fully equipped barber shop, adorned with vintage-style black and white floor tiles.
Hungry after your cut?
During the day, you can find a selection of breakfast sandwiches and brunch options in the bustling cafe, all prepared with freshly baked pastries from Forno Cultura.
Brunch cocktails are also available for those seeking a daytime indulgence.
Avocado Toast ($12) here if a bit different from the usual. Good Company makes theirs with a velvety avocado mousse and pairs it with zesty tomato salsa, soft-boiled eggs and alfalfa sprouts on toasted sourdough bread.
The Thick and Morty sandwich ($14) is a brioche bun served with a generous stack of mortadella, tangy pickled chayote and rich pistachio butter, resulting in a satisfying blend of sweet and savory flavors.
A Bagel Tower ($31) comes with a presentation to justify its price and includes two varieties of toppings and nicely toasted bagels along with juicy honey-soaked blueberries and creamy mascarpone cheese, elevated by hints of mint, lime zest and crushed pistachios.
I topped my balgels with cream cheese, cucumber, red onion, capers, silky smoked salmon and salmon roe.
From the coffee bar I'd recommend the nutty Pistachio Latte ($6.25) finished with an aesthetic touch of roasted pistachio.
Cinny Bun Shaken Iced Cappuccino ($7) is what you should get if you're in the mood for an iced drink. Reminiscent of a comforting spiced caramel latte, this cup had just the right amount of sweetness.
As night falls, Good Company transitions into a lively snack bar with dynamic lighting, providing a cozy setting to sit back with a cocktail and appetizing small plates.
The Caesar Salad ($16) is a tasty version of the classic, accented by tender anchovy slices, bacon bits and grated Grana Padano on top of crisp baby gem lettuce.
The Lump Crab Salad ($21) is layered smashed avocado and crab meat garnished with fried shallots for extra crunchiness. Savor this irresistible dip with kettle chips served on top. I had to ask for more chips to devour the entire plate.
Not to be overlooked, the Steak Tartare ($26) is finely chopped AAA tenderloin topped with raw egg yolk and finely grated cheese. Make sure to scoop up all components with the toasted baguette slices.
I also highly recommend trying this Burrata plate ($18). Seasoned with freshly ground black pepper and fleur de sel, the pillowy burrata tastes even better with the earthy aromatic essence of black truffle oil and paste.
For drinks, Good Company has a range of offerings ranging from classic cocktails and beer to an assortment of wines served by the glass, along with their house-special cocktail creations.
The cocktail to get here is the Working Girl ($18). Named after the movie, it's a fruity tropical drink made with vodka, liquor 43, spiced vanilla syrup, mango puree and lime juice, topped off with a fizzy splash of prosecco and an American $100 bill (not real).
Good Company is located at 498 Queen St W.
