Nuit Blanche 2009 - Curators and Concepts Announced

Posted by Jerrold Litwinenko / March 9, 2009

Hot off the presses, Scotiabank Nuit Blanche organizers and the City of Toronto have announced the core concepts and curators behind them for the forthcoming 2009 installment of the "all night contemporary art thing".

Theme that are likened to a Labyrinth of ideas, historical connectivity, economic collapse and its effect on art, non-visual senses, and conveying urban disaster and hope sound intriguing and promising.

It'll be really interesting to experience both the curated and spring-up projects that result.

The 4th annual installment of Nuit Blanche Toronto goes down on October 3rd, 2009 - from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and there are many ways that we can get involved.

I have been to the past 3 years of Nuit Blanche and I have to say, that last years was a real waste of my time, I was so disappointed. The different sectors were so split up and Trinity Bellwoods was incredibly lackluster, not to mention the TTC didn't appear to be cooperating at all. It felt as thought there was less concentration on the exhibits themelves and how they fit together and more focus on covering ground around the city. Nothing seemed to flow. As soon as it starts to turn to fall, I usually get really excited because I know Nuit Blanch is around the corner, I hope this year's will make up for the abomination that was Nuit Blanch 2008...

What a challenge it must be to be handed a "zone" to curate at Nuit Blanche. I know it'd be an honour for me, that's for sure.

Such an exciting opportunity to connect art with the masses. I really hope this years event is memorable.

Best of luck.

Here's an idea: don't make it so lame. So many of the installations were garbage.

They should concentrate things closer together and do fewer things but bigger things.

Quality trumps quantity.

Zzzzz: Art is subjective, so please respect the work of others.

But i agree this event should be smaller in distance. Maybe just the downtown/lakeshore core.

Sorry, everyone. I'm told by the folks at the City that the video was buggy and had to be removed... but a new one will replace it shortly. Cheers!

Hurray! Jennifer was one of my professors at York U - both she and Jim are quite the visionaries. I expect nothing but the best from Zone B!

How the hell is saying a piece of art is garbage being disrespectful? It's the expression of an opinion.

Jennifer Fisher is psychotic. Seriously, she was the worst prof I've ever had - flakey, completely irrational, flirted with the young men (gross and totally inappropriate). I love Nuit Blanche but picking her was a big mistake.

As a downtown condo resident I have to say it has been quite interesting to watch the various displays go up at OCAD over the last several years. It's not certainly boring owning a home in this area, that's for sure! But I do have a suggestion and that would be to reduce the decibels of sound. Our condo complex is quite old and as a result are very far from sound-proof. Otherwise, enjoy the event.
