24, A Photography Exhibit

Posted by MikeR / July 4, 2007

20070703_solferino2.jpgThe photoblogger series at Solferino continues this month with a special guest, the one, the only, Photojunkie!

If you're not familiar with the Toronto legend that is Rannie Turingan, he is the glue that holds the Toronto blogger scene together through his ambitious blogger meetups, and is quite often the voice of the blogger community in the media.

I might exaggerate his stardom, but there's certainly no arguing that he's a damn good photographer. That being said, when I asked Rannie to show his work at Solferino, I never expected he'd bust out such a stunning exhibit! 24 vibrant square photos on canvas in a breathtaking wide arrangement. You've outdone yourself Rannie.

Opening party this Thursday, July 5, 2007, 6:00pm - 10:00pm, Facebook
Solferino Gelato Cafe, 38 Wellington St East

Tip: If you can find one of the flyers, you can get a free upsize of your gelato on the day of the exhibit opening.

With special appearance by Jack Bauer on opening night. Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men once tried to read Jack Bauer's mind. Now he's sitting in a wheel chair.

Solferino has been surfacing in newspapers, magazines, and conversations in my life for the last month. I now have a second reason to reinforce my motivation to seek out the avocado gelato.

Why are aligned square canvasses so visually satisfying?

Kathryn: I think it's the shear size of the installation. It fills a very large wall, and is practically your entire field of vision. It's like being at a movie theater. That combined with the mosaic affect produced by the squares is really stunning.

Saw this last night and it looks amazing.

You can also see some of Rannie's work TONIGHT at the "Picture the Cure" opening at the Steamwhistle.
