I love the leading lines in "trains" by Jay Morrison. And the blast of colour against the white snow is really great.

"Passing By" by PDPhotography appeared on Torontoist this week too. Testament to our love for the image I suppose. It's a great photo, and it's great to have snow.

I'd love to know the story behind "Bagel Competition"!

Morning!

Thanks for selecting my photo.

It was taken this past Monday after our first real snowfall. I have been noticing the trains at Laird & Millwood for quite some time and wanted to do something there. It is an interesting site because there are multiple tracks and loads of trains running through there, and right beside it is a pretty upscale neighbourhood with houses backing right out to the tracks.

Hi there, I'm really happy to see my Passing By shot included in this weeks photo wrapup.

I took this shot last Sunday morning during the first real snow fall of the season at St Thomas St, just off Bloor and Bay. I'd noticed the boarded-up buidlings the day before, and made a note to go back and spend some time there.

This was the last shot I'd taken, all the others were just of the buildings and very static, then this man came past and it just all clicked into place.

I like the grim urban look, and the posture in the man. I see him rushing to get somewhere, or hating the snow, or just wanting to get out the way of my lens.

I'll be upset when/if these buildings get demolished. With some TLC they could be wonderful apartments or offices.

Cheers! Patrick

The dome is at Ontario Place, on Toronto's lakeshore. I was there for our summer work party - we try to do a few fun things out of the office each year.

Is there a story within or about your photograph?

I've always loved domes like this. They're an organic shape in the world of straight rectangular buildings, which is rare. My father used to work in a radar tower with domes so they remind me of him as well. As a kid, I'd always point them out and yell "golf ball, golf ball". :)

As for the image itself, the light fluffy clouds in the background almost look like they don't belong. It's not a composite image, but you might think so because of the juxtaposition. The repeating pattern of the dome is also intriguing.

Thanks for including my shot in the Forum - it hit the Torontoist pool earlier this week.

The shot was a real pleasure to shoot, and is a cheeky composition I put together. It starts with a Saturday morning Jetfuel with my sister, where I brought a half-dozen bagels. Laughing, I was dipping my bagel in the coffee and eating/drinking it.

The shot is slide film - Kodak Elite chrome 400 for those that care. The slide was projected onto my wall in my place after I was looking at their quality, and just laughed when i saw that one (my sister thought it was my DSLR she was shooting with).

The projection inspired me to play around with shadows, and I made a shadow of a dog, with the pinky finger being the mouth. Laughing the whole time, I made the 'dog' chomp on the other half of the bagel, while at the same time having my DSLR on a tripod shooting the wall. It took me a few tries to get the shadows right, but it turned out well.

Thanks for the comment Jerrold, I love seeing your photoblog in the morning (with the dozen+ more I have a homepages!). Thanks for the inclusion, and feel free to check out more images on my photoblog.

"In-flight Movie" was taken in mid-December while walking around the Harbourfront area. Not much of a story to the visual (something about the composition just stuck with me), but the title comes from someone nearby who noticed I was taking photos of the plane. Out of nowhere, he began to break into an impression of a pilot on a PA ("Ladies and gentlemen, today's in-flight movie is...!"), and the rest is history. ;)

Thanks Mike and Jerrold for choosing this photo!

I love the geodesic dome!

I'm quite a fan of any kind of geometric subject matter, but this is particularly well rendered. The slight clouds give a softness to the shadows as they work their way down the dome, and the grid really adds a lot of deapth. Nice.

Thanks Paul. Glad you liked the dome. Right place at the right time when it came to the clouds.
