The blogTO Flickr Forum is a weekly dialogue for Torontonians and is based on their photographs and the stories behind them.
These images were recently submitted to the blogTO Flickr pool. The people that took the photographs have been invited to participate in discussions about them here. Anyone can start! Don't be shy!
Here are some general starter questions for all six photographers:
Where/when was it taken?
Is there a story within or about your photograph?

I would like to state a very heartfelt expression of gratitude to Jerrold and blogTO for inclusion in the Friday Flickr Forum. I am both flattered and honored. The hardworking folks at blogTO have really devoted their efforts into making this one of the very best social commentaries and observations on the Toronto "Scene".
My photo, "always Refreshing" came about as part of a new photographic self-challenge I am in the midst of called "The 1 Year Project." The premise is simple, a commitment to myself to take at least one quality photograph each and everyday for a period of 1 year, with a single image to be posted in a dedicated photo gallery on flickr. There are similar projects/groups on flickr, though most centre on self-portraits. As I have no illusions about winning any modeling contests, I prefer to be behind the lens rather than in front.
"always Refreshing" is not an anti-corporate statement of any kind (I like Coca Cola). Rather, it is my way of using vivid colours and striking images to convey a different way of looking at ordinary and mundane objects that are so very much a part of our daily lives. The use of rich colours and strong contrast allows me to transform common items into extraordinary and sometimes disturbing images. I assure you, I am quite sane. Ha!
Toronto is home is to a great many talented and diverse photographers. What I "bring to the table" is but one vision, and I feel blessed that I am surrounded by such gifted & skilled individuals who constantly challenge and motivate me to always improve my craft.
Lastly, no Molars were harmed in composing this photo.
Thanks for the kind words, your support, and your contributions to the pool.
What a striking image, Michael! What did you use for the blood, and the tooth?
I think it's fantastic that you are pushing yourself to create images daily. It's something I wish I could find the time for.
Thanks,Jerrold.
The blood is theatrical blood (purcharged during Halloween) and the tooth was part of a plaster skull that I picked up at a science centre several years ago.
I strongly encourage you and all that are interested, to find that time and really push yourself to experiment and see what happens.........sometimes the results can be amazing.
My image "Angelina Noseworthia" was taken this week during the first installation of "Wii Wednesdays." The idea behind Wii Wednesday is to tour my Nintendo Wii from living room to living room around the GTA. In return, I ask for a meal and for you to pose for a Wii action shot.
The first stop of the tour brought us to Tom and Ange's place just off Broadview. They have a spacious 2 bedroom with a gorgeous view of the downtown core. Ange always being a really good sport decided on her own to dress up in this 80-esque inspired Tennis outfit. It was fabulous.
The image itself was shot with my Canon 20D Digital SLR and for lighting I used an external flash which was simply bounced off the ceiling.
Another action shot of Ange at play can be found here.
So, Michael ... that's not a Toronto public sculpture, then? :D
And what a terrific collection of photos this is!
Ha Ha
You got me there, Steph!
For a change, it is NOT public sculpture....though I am on my way out the door so........who knows?
I really appreciate your compliment and hope you have an enjoyable and productive weekend.
First off, thanks for the invitation to share my photos with everyone involved. Its much appreciated.
To get things started, the Arcade Building is at 137 Yonge Street, and continues out to Victoria Street on the other side. It's probably one of the most unheralded '60's modern buildings in Toronto. Most of you have probably been there to renew your license or get a passport. I remember it because of the coin shop on the ground floor.
There wasn't any predetermined story to this shot. The new lights simply caught my eye as I passed by on Adelaide. I don't normally strive for didactic photography but am interested in themes of architecture, develpment, and the ever-changing city. Being an architect I may be less nostalgic and more hopefull for the future when exploring these themes. (so yes, I think the new lights are great!)
Thanks Again.
Thanks for the background on the Arcade Building, Paul.
I haven't seen the building in its glowing glory yet, but I'm glad you like the new glow coming from 137 Yonge St. Popular opinion seems to be that it's a very likeable addition to the area. :)
I always thought that building on Victoria St. was increadibly ugly. Guess I just never saw it at night!
Thanks Kompot!
photojunkie: I love your Nintendo Wii party tour concept. What a fantastic way to meet people, find people for portraits, and get fed :)
As far as I know, blogTO's Ryan C is on your list of Wii Party stops... we'll have to "review" your party for the blog.
Burt,
It went from ugly to unremarkable in 2 minutes. I guess by tonight it'll go from interesting to exceptional! : )
The lights are new, thats probably why you missed them before.
When did the lights on the building go live?
Hey, thanks for including my photo CN coffee in your set, it's an honour.
I was showing my aunt around Toronto and how could I not take her to the CN Tower. I was having such a great time at the top of the world in the centre of the universe that I just had to record that moment as I saw it.
It's not intended to make a statement but i guess it can be used as a call to action on waterfront revitalization! :)
Sarosh, with a stretch, your image could also be used as a call for action on global warming. The water level is making its way up the tower :)
I like your photo for its aesthetics... speaks of a relaxing moment in the tower, slowly turning and looking out on the city.
Just wanted to drop you a line to say, I enjoy reading your site. I thought about starting a blog myself but don't have the time.
Oh well maybe one day.... :)
