The blogTO Flickr Forum is a weekly dialogue for Torontonians and is based on their photographs and the stories behind them.
These images were recently submitted to the blogTO Flickr pool. The people that took the photographs have been invited to participate in discussions about them here. Anyone can start! Don't be shy!
Here are some general starter questions for all six photographers:
Where/when was it taken?
Is there a story within or about your photograph?

My photo, "always Refreshing" came about as part of a new photographic self-challenge I am in the midst of called "The 1 Year Project." The premise is simple, a commitment to myself to take at least one quality photograph each and everyday for a period of 1 year, with a single image to be posted in a dedicated photo gallery on flickr. There are similar projects/groups on flickr, though most centre on self-portraits. As I have no illusions about winning any modeling contests, I prefer to be behind the lens rather than in front.
"always Refreshing" is not an anti-corporate statement of any kind (I like Coca Cola). Rather, it is my way of using vivid colours and striking images to convey a different way of looking at ordinary and mundane objects that are so very much a part of our daily lives. The use of rich colours and strong contrast allows me to transform common items into extraordinary and sometimes disturbing images. I assure you, I am quite sane. Ha!
Toronto is home is to a great many talented and diverse photographers. What I "bring to the table" is but one vision, and I feel blessed that I am surrounded by such gifted & skilled individuals who constantly challenge and motivate me to always improve my craft.
Lastly, no Molars were harmed in composing this photo.
What a striking image, Michael! What did you use for the blood, and the tooth?
I think it's fantastic that you are pushing yourself to create images daily. It's something I wish I could find the time for.
The blood is theatrical blood (purcharged during Halloween) and the tooth was part of a plaster skull that I picked up at a science centre several years ago.
I strongly encourage you and all that are interested, to find that time and really push yourself to experiment and see what happens.........sometimes the results can be amazing.
The first stop of the tour brought us to Tom and Ange's place just off Broadview. They have a spacious 2 bedroom with a gorgeous view of the downtown core. Ange always being a really good sport decided on her own to dress up in this 80-esque inspired Tennis outfit. It was fabulous.
The image itself was shot with my Canon 20D Digital SLR and for lighting I used an external flash which was simply bounced off the ceiling.
Another action shot of Ange at play can be found <a href="http://www.photojunkie.ca/archive/2007/01/gta-wii-tour-ange/">here</a>.
And what a terrific collection of photos this is!
You got me there, Steph!
For a change, it is NOT public sculpture....though I am on my way out the door so........who knows?
I really appreciate your compliment and hope you have an enjoyable and productive weekend.
To get things started, the Arcade Building is at 137 Yonge Street, and continues out to Victoria Street on the other side. It's probably one of the most unheralded '60's modern buildings in Toronto. Most of you have probably been there to renew your license or get a passport. I remember it because of the coin shop on the ground floor.
There wasn't any predetermined story to this shot. The new lights simply caught my eye as I passed by on Adelaide. I don't normally strive for didactic photography but am interested in themes of architecture, develpment, and the ever-changing city. Being an architect I may be less nostalgic and more hopefull for the future when exploring these themes. (so yes, I think the new lights are great!)
Thanks Again.
I haven't seen the building in its glowing glory yet, but I'm glad you like the new glow coming from 137 Yonge St. <a href="http://www.torontoist.com/archives/2007/01/the_nights_that.php">Popular opinion seems to be that it's a very likeable addition to the area</a>. :)
Thanks Kompot!
As far as I know, blogTO's Ryan C is on your list of Wii Party stops... we'll have to "review" your party for the blog.
It went from ugly to unremarkable in 2 minutes. I guess by tonight it'll go from interesting to exceptional! : )
The lights are new, thats probably why you missed them before.
I was showing my aunt around Toronto and how could I not take her to the CN Tower. I was having such a great time at the top of the world in the centre of the universe that I just had to record that moment as I saw it.
It's not intended to make a statement but i guess it can be used as a call to action on waterfront revitalization! :)
I like your photo for its aesthetics... speaks of a relaxing moment in the tower, slowly turning and looking out on the city.
Oh well maybe one day.... <A HREF="http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/display/~susanbrooks"> :)</A>
Firstly it's design of the phone.
The appearance of a world famous Branded Mobile phones are what huge number of testers and researchers' fundamental concern is. These people exert large efforts to offer the phones best looks that corresponds with the prices specified by the establishment. China mobile phonesfail to carry out this step. They ordinarily will get a hold of a pre-existing phone case molding after which use their own electronics and components inside. These moldings can be determined by internationally famous brands such as iPhone or a BlackBerry, and because of this Chinese manufactured phones appear to be fakes. Why do they do this? It's since it costs less to repeat the moldings of famous brands than to research and make their own.
Second the mobile phone's chipset. Various chips are utilized for acknowledged cell phones. high spead chips usually are not valuable in a phone with flasher functions. Phones marketed to a lower end base can use chip sets that enclose a processing rate which is much slower, making the purchase price much lower in comparison. China mobile phones are surplussed by MTK chip set. The MediaTeck Inc chip set use two degrees. MEDIATEK6225 is cheaper and has other features such as Internet connections, camera, MP players. MEDIATEK6235 is faster, with large scree, high res cameras, edge connection speed and wifi. Both these chips are not similar with chip sets from branded name brands in relation to pure speed and power, while, to the China mobile phones makers, they are a gain as they are able to have thousands and thousands of the features of last generation phones and cost less also (and being easy to search for).
Thirdly it's the cell phone's Operation System. Nokia and Moto have diverse operating systems from other cell phones. Every now and then, when a company is cutting corners, they get rights to implement another company's OS (including Windows Mobile) and leave it unaffected, or else adjust it to suit their own requests.
The nucleus OS is used by virtually all China phones manufacturers. This OS is used due to the its easy structure, less speed, much supply and nice.
At last it's about the phone's User Interface .
Branded ones use an interface that is certainly adapted with their OS. This lets it be inimitable from other phones. China cell phones have a range of Uis designs with nucleus OS. Many times however, they use this ability not to make fresh interfaces to separate themselves from opponents, on the contrary principally to merely restructure better known ones from brand name phones. The Chinese do that correspondingly to make equal the phone mold case, or to duplicate a trendy one. A copied covering tend to be nothing like the known iPhone. Thus, Branded Cell Phones are more favorable than those created from China. Be careful in acquiring fake China cell phones from suppliers.
