Congrats to the winner and all, but I thought this was a photography contest, not a photoshop contest.
An interesting point, mcg, but I also think the same result could have been easily achieved in a darkroom with an analogue photo as a digital one in photoshop, let alone by just using the right filters. I see no evidence of scienceduck using effects above and beyond what would be acceptable in any photo contest anywhere. That being said I think all the submissions were stellar and I know that it was with some agony the final choice was made,
cheers
Carrie
i hear what you're saying mcg, but i'm sure everyone did at least some level adjustment on their photos... in the digital age, post processing is as important as the capture its self... in my humble opinion.
I was rooting for Ken to win...the winner is a little too HDR'd for my liking. Doesn't really look like a photo anymore (sorry, Scienceduck).
i think the winnner and all the finalists are incredibly beautiful shots, i'm no photgrapher, just sayin.
thanks everyone. there were great photos in the contest and i'm honoured that one of mine was picked. It was a fantastic night and I really hope we will get a chance to do it again next year.
mcg, the contest rules did state: "Digital and analog methods, and darkroom techniques are permitted."
however, i understand that HDR work is not everyone's cup of tea. The pros and cons of digital manipulation is probably best saved for another thread, but I have posted a non HDR version of that shot to my flickr accout if you are interested:
