The Regent Park Film Festival Celebrates #6

The Regent Park Film Festival may not get as much love as some other film festivals in the city, but now embarking on its 6th year of screenings it has certainly earned its spot as one of the most ambitious.

Situated in Toronto's largest and oldest inner city neighbourhood, the festival programs all its films and panel discussions at Nelson Mandela Public School (440 Shuter Street) and throws its closing night party at the nearby Dominion on Queen.

As in previous years, the Regent Park Film Festival is focused on films relevant to the immigrant communities living in Regent Park. This year they have sponsored film makers to attend the festival from such un-Hollywood locals as Mathare, the largest slums in Kenya, a war zone in Afghanistan, Burundi and the First Nations village of Bella Coola in Northern British Colombia.

Screenings start the day after election day, November 5th. The full schedule is up on the festival's web site.
