Speculation ends: Jeremy Podeswa's Fugitive Pieces to open TIFF

Hot on the heels of a bit of speculation about what would be this year's opening night gala at the Toronto International Film Festival, TIFFGroup has announced that Jeremy Podeswa will open the festival with his adaptation of Anne Michaels' novel Fugitive Pieces.

Podeswa (Eclipse, The Five Senses) is popular around town, though personally, I only really enjoy his Six Feet Under episodes. This is his first feature to open the fest. The novel tells the story of a man who was orphaned as a child during World War II before being saved by a Greek archaeologist. Though the flick boasts no major stars, it will gain momentum through the name-recognition of Michaels' popular book.

Pass and coupon sales for TIFF '07 begin on July 9th.
