Feral Childe presents Canadian Alphabet at the Drake

Feral Childe presents the Canadian Alphabet fashion show tonight (January 23, 2007) at the Drake Hotel. This night is special as it's the debut of their Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Torontonians are getting a sneak preview as it's off to New York fashion week after the debut at the Drake.

Feral Childe currently are artists in residence at the Drake Hotel. Partners, Alice Wu and Moriah Carleson are originally from New York City. The Canadian Alphabet collection takes inspiration from the cultural and colloquial characteristic of Toronto and the surrounding areas. Travel sketches drawn during the residency will be the basis for textile prints. The clothing will serve as a visual travelogue of Feral Childe's crazy Canadian adventures. Americans are always interested in the way I say about, I wonder if they will have some boot reference in their designs; that would make me laugh.

Accompanying the fashion show is musical guest Taigaa! from Brooklyn. Their music has been called wild and unconventional and this has me interested. It should make for a different type of fashion show, an indie Fashion Rocks perhaps. Opening the night will be a short video program featuring works by New York video artists curated by Christina Vassallo, Drake Curator in Residence.

Admission is $5 and the show starts at 9pm in the Drake Underground. Watch this space for a roundup of tonight's show.
