This Week In Comedy: ALTdot Comedy Lounge, Fraser Young w/Tim Dimond, Muslim and Funny, and Superstars of Comedy

The Olympics? Seriously? Don't you know you can catch all of the important replays on YouTube in stunning 240p? This week, why not venture outside, take a stroll, and enjoy the fresh air on your way to one of the amazing shows that Toronto's comedy producers have put together?

MON AUG 13 / ALTdot COMEDY LOUNGE / RIVOLI / 332 QUEEN W / 9PM / $5

Usually, I try to spotlight a particular comedian on a show. However, ALTdot has put together a list which includes almost all of my favourite comedians in Toronto right now. Debra Digiovanni (toured with Russell Peters), Trixx (MC'd for Tracy Morgan), Jon Schabl (opened for Jimmy Pardo), Amanda Brooke Perrin (opened for Brody Stevens), Craig Fay (MC'd for Myq Kaplan)...you get the idea. Long story short, if you only have time for one show this week, make this the one.

WED AUG 15 - SUN AUG 19 / FRASER YOUNG feat. TIM DIMOND / ABSOLUTE COMEDY / 2335 YONGE / 8PM / $6-15

When I was a kid, I would sometimes speak in a half-stutter as my drive to communicate was battling my drive to be polite. In the same spirit, Fraser Young's stand-up comedy act is wonderfully detailed, communicating both statements and footnotes one after the other so he can be as clear as possible. It's something you have to see. But since I featured a video of his act last week, I've posted a hilarious clip of his partner in crime, Tim Dimond. Is there anything better than a comedian telling jokes that perfectly capture their persona?

FRI AUG 17 / MUSLIM & FUNNY / COMEDY BAR / 945 BLOOR W / 930PM / $10

Muslim AND funny? That's right. Your headliner, Eman Husseini, has been featured at Just For Laughs, Comedy Now, and was even detained by Israeli authorities (no joke). Ali Hassan, one of the friendliest comics you'll ever meet, is your host, fresh off a stint at Just For Laughs. Azfar Ali, Hoodo Hersi, and Faisal Butt round out your list of suspects.

SAT AUG 18 / SUPERSTARS OF COMEDY / COMEDY BAR / 945 BLOOR W / 10PM / $10

Pat MacDonald has done an outstanding job of producing and promoting one of the most consistent shows in Toronto, Superstars of Comedy. This week, he features comedians that have been on Def Comedy Jam (Jamie O'Connor), MTV (Dave Merheje), Comedy Now (Diana Love), and The Great Canadian Laugh Off (Mark DeBonis). No wonder the shows are consistently selling out. If you don't laugh at Mark's joke about popcorn (1:50), we can't be friends.
