Gallery Space: Store Window Holiday Hacks

December 29th: This Week in the Gallery Space -

As we hover in the limbo between Boxing day and New Year's -- now dubbed "Boxing Week" by retailers -- every shop window has got some kind of flashy sign annoucing their big holiday blow-out (say what?) deals. Enough so, that it's inspired artists to get into a little window decorating themselves.

Two notable windows to check out this week are:

Sleepwalker Projects by Toronto artist, Fedora Romita. On now, 'til January 5, 2007 at 787 Queen W (street level, beside Dufflet Pastries)

In this exhib, Romita returns every night, after dark, to re-poster the Sleepwalkerer space with new work and a different textual message for the day.

Vid Ingelevics' Inconvenience Store, 2006, on now until Jan 18.
This short, looped video work is being shown in the window of the 24/7 Convenience Gallery (58 Lansdowne Ave, 1 block N of Queen). The work looks back to the history of local convenience stores in T.O., which were once found amidst residential neighbourhoods, but have since moved out onto the main streets.
