Gallery Space: Parks, Water and the Vagilanti

Sept 14th -- This week in the Gallery Space:

Toronto Free Gallery (660 Queen St E) presents Tejpal S. Ajji with Water, Water Everywhere, and Franco DeFrancesca with Vagilanti - Prophylactic Nanobots.

Ajji's work looks at what two of Ontario's less typically commemorated natural and human resources -- fresh water and immigrant labour -- would look like if memorialized as fountain monuments.

DeFrancesca's project (seen here) explores the "charm and surreptitiousness of product merchandising permeating contemporary culture..."

Opening reception is tonight, September 14th at 8pm.

Outdoors this weekend we have two worthy art fests within blocks of each other:

In Queen West West, the Parkdale Arts Festival is back for the third time this summer and finally may get a sunny day. Photoblogger, Sean Galbraith and myself will be exhibiting in this event, so feel free to stop in and say hello.

A littler further east on Queen is slightly more elitist but always fantastic Queen West Art Crawl Outdoor Art Sale. Hundreds of artists will be showing and selling work in Trinity Bellwoods park all weekend long.

At the AGO (317 Dundas St W), the Warhol exhibit is now in its final 2 weeks. The exhibit has been extremely busy, with long lineups coming between the public and the show. If you're planning a visit, word is that Thursday and Friday evenings may be your best bet.

Fragments of Everyday, the 1st solo show by local photoblogging duo Istoica opens at the WhipperSnapper Gallery (587A College St) tomorrow at 7pm. Jerrold has got some more details.

Martin Pearce at Rebecca Gallery (317 Grace St at Harbord). Show opens Sept 16th with an reception from 2-5pm. Pearce's work features complex and abstract landscapes (oil on canvas).
