Chalking his Way to Calgary

Award-winning chalk and street artist "Chalk Master" Dave Johnston wants to go to Calgary for the annual Stampede, and he's giving it all the chalk he's got in an attempt to raise the funds to make it there. I ran into him outside the Eaton Center, directly across from Dundas Square, where he was down on the concrete working diligently on this piece.

According to his checklist of "List of Needs for Calgary" (also written in chalk, next to his sidewalk canvas) he seems to be doing well so far but is running short on time since the Stampede gets under way on July 7th. Checked off items include the airfare, food, and a cowboy hat, which he's already sporting. Judging by the size of the surrounding crowd of tourists and other curious on-lookers, I think he may just make it!
