Book Scene: Parties and Pride Week Preview

This past weekend saw the book industry partying like frat boys.

McClelland and Stewart celebrated their 100th anniversary, with 900 of their closest friends. If you missed the open bar, click on the M&S link above and enter their 'Essential 100' book competition - you could win a library of their top 100 titles (they refer to quality, not sales figures).

Everyone else was doing it up for the Book Expo. You may have seen a few authors strutting around town, too, looking to grab a few more likely readers.

Not too many events early this week, as everyone is recovering from wicked hangovers.

Ramping up for Pride Week (19th - 25th), towards the end of the week -

Friday the 16th, you can check out A is for Orange at the Toronto Women's Bookstore - readings by queer Caribbean writers. Free.

Sunday, Leslie Feinberg, author of Drag King Dreams, gives a talk about the book and about hir life in activism. Two local artists will also perform at the event, to be held in the U of T Medical Science Building auditorium. Tickets are available through TWB. (5-15$)
