Toronto Gets a City Walk

This week San Francisco based Chronicle Books is releasing a Toronto edition of their popular City Walks series. While we don't think these in any way replicate the experience of our handy Toronto neighbourhood maps it's nice to see more products available to help both locals and tourists get better acquainted with Toronto.

The City Walks series now publishes guides to more than a dozen cities in Europe and North America. Each edition comes with 50 different self-guided walking tours printed on pedestrian friendly cards. Each card includes a detailed map on the front and text on the back highlighting points of interest and a bit of history.

Since the Toronto edition is only available for pre-order until Wednesday it remains to be seen whether the City Walk people have stuck to the usual tourist landmarks or branched out beyond the downtown core. Unfortunately the web site doesn't give us much of a sneak peak, only alluding to The Harbourfront, Queen Street West, The Entertainment District, Toronto Islands and Bloor Street among the tours included.

For other walking tour options, don't forget about the audio-based City Surf, Muddy York Walking Tours and [murmur].
