ttc hillcrest complex

You can get a behind-the-scenes tour of the largest TTC facility in Toronto

The TTC is offering rare access inside the sprawling Hillcrest Complex at 1138 Bathurst St. this weekend as part of its annual United Way Campaign to raise funds for those in need.

Transit geeks can sign up to get an all-access tour behind the scenes of the TTC's largest operational facility at Bathurst and Davenport on Saturday, Sept. 17, including a look at vintage streetcars and buses, and access to D.W. Harvey Shops, where the transit agency repairs and fabricates just about everything you can imagine.

blogTO was treated to a preview of what visitors can expect this weekend, including a look at the process of bending, planning, and repairing streetcar tracks.

Visitors will also learn about vehicle repair and maintenance, with first-hand looks at everything from motor rebuilding to blacksmithing and upholstering, and a range of other in-house trades fabricating and mending the hardware that keeps Toronto's public transit system moving.
