Live music picks for MONDAY OCTOBER 29 through SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2012.

MONDAY OCTOBER 29 / MILO GREENE / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 368 QUEEN W / $16.90 / 19+

Milo Greene isn't one specific individual - in fact, it's an indie folk quintet out of Los Angeles. At first listen, you may dismiss them as having a similar sound to bands like Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Of Monsters and Men. And while this may be true, in no way should this be considered a negative, because they've taken the sound and made it their own. Their self-titled debut album was released in July to near-universal acclaim, and they're definitely worth checking out. You can expect big things from these guys; I'd bet the farm on it. Lucius will offer support.

TUESDAY OCTOBER 30 / THOSE DARLINS / THE GARRISON / 1197 DUNDAS W / $12.50 - $14 / 19+

For those of you who love garage rock infused with a little stripped-down country (and really, who doesn't?), this is one that you'll want to check out. Those Darlins are a trio out of Nashville who have perfected a fairly unique sound, and gained considerable notoriety since coming together in 2006. The group, which was formerly a quartet (founding member Kelly Anderson left the band last year), will get your feet tapping with their catchy rhythms. And really, how can you not love a band with a song called "Keep My Skillet Good and Greasy?" Fellow Nashvillers Heavy Cream and local group Non-Stop Girls will open.

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 31 / EPICA / THE OPERA HOUSE / 735 QUEEN E / $33.25 / ALL AGES

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I don't really "get" metal and all of its subgenres. But I suppose that Halloween night is as good a time as any to take in a symphonic metal show. Dutch sextet Epica will be taking the stage at the Opera House, with support from Alestrom. In my opinion, Epica has a sound that's somewhat similar to Evanesence, so, yeah. Take that for what its worth.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 2 / MATT MAYS / THE PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE / $22.50 / 19+

This is some truly awesome stuff, right here. East Coast artist Matt Mays has been on the scene since the '90s, and in that time he's developed a very loyal following of fans. It's not hard to see why - the guy is like a Canadian Tom Petty, and that's some very high praise. For my money, "Take It On Faith," the first single of his latest album, Coyote, is one of the best singles of the year. This is a can't-miss show.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3 / CRYSTAL CASTLES / THE KOOL HAUS / 132 QUEENS QUAY E / $41 / ALL AGES

It's nice to see a local act make it big on the international stage, and that's just what Crystal Castles did in 2010 with their massive single "Not In Love," featuring the legendary Robert Smith. The electronic duo has been around since 2004, though, so their catalogue is very extensive and their fanbase is very broad. You can expect this one to be a near-sell out, and if you can get tickets, it's absolutely worth your time.
