Map shows cycling times between TTC subway stops

Last week Toronto's collective commute was put into perspective thanks to Pavlo Kalyta's TTC map with the walking times between each subway station. It was quite the sensation on social media if only because we can all recall a time when it would have been faster to walk than to rely on the TTC.

Now there's a new map that operates under a similar concept. Biking Toronto has got in on the fun by showing the cycling times between each subway station, a mode of transportation which can't help but look like the better way when you factor in the frequency of delays the TTC experiences.

Cycling times between stations range between one to 13 minutes, which underscores that dramatic difference between the distances from one station to another when comparing the core to the former suburbs. Calculations are based on Goolge maps data. In the event that there's a significant directional discrepancy (i.e. on account of hills), the varying times are averaged out.

It's a compelling way to reimagine one's commute, particularly as cycling weather is just around the corner. Check out a high resolution version of the map here.
