Toronto Concert Listings

Hot Ticket: Damon and Naomi, Amor de Dias, Snailhouse, Katie Moore, Tusks, Anna Calvi, Cuckoo Chaos, Lissie, Ash Koley, Radio Dept., Nightbox

Live music picks for WEDNESDAY MAY 25 through TUESDAY MAY 31, 2011.

WEDNESDAY MAY 25 / DAMON AND NAOMI / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 370 QUEEN ST W / $12.50 / 19+
Long-time folk-rock duo Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang - known simply as Damon and Naomi - celebrate twenty-five years as performers with their seventh LP False Beats & True Hearts. Their East Coast tour, which includes a stop at the Horseshoe, will be co-headlined by indie-pop duo Amor de DĂas, making the night more intimate.

THURSDAY MAY 26 / SNAILHOUSE / DAKOTA TAVERN / 249 OSSINGTON AVE / $10 / 19+
Mike Feuerstack - the man behind solo project Snailhouse - is known for his tight-knit song-writing and jaunty guitar style. Montreal's Katie Moore and Toronto's Tusks join him in the line-up, as Snailhouse begins his Canadian tour with a CD-release show for his seventh LP Sentimental Gentleman at Dakota Tavern.

FRIDAY MAY 27 / ANNA CALVI / EL MOCAMBO / 464 SPADINA AVE / $10 / 19+
Anna Calvi's guitar glistens like the thick rouge on her lips, and behind that dainty figure and shy persona, she surprises her audience with powerful vocal punches and musical performances that evoke PJ Harvey, Jeff Buckley and Nick Cave. And like these noir-rockers, she performs with real stage presence. San Diego, California's Cuckoo Chaos opens.

SATURDAY MAY 28 / LISSIE / PHOENIX / 410 SHERBOURNE ST / $24 / ALL AGES
Illinois indie-folk artist Lissie reminds all that music doesn't need glam and disguises to sound good. With stripped-down, raspy vocals, Lissie wails and belts out ballads like "Everywhere I Go" and the bluesy "Little Lovin'". The fearless freckled face Lissie will be joined by Winnipeg alt-pop duo Ash Koley.

SUNDAY MAY 29 / RADIO DEPT. / PHOENIX / HORSESHOE TAVERN / 370 QUEEN ST W / $15 / 19+
Radio Dept. returns to Toronto after playing a low-key gig at Lee's Palace in February. Though the Swedish trio glides across stages with their minimalist approach - a couple guitars, a bass, a keyboard and a laptop, their sound is never slim. It scatters like their aerial tunes. Locals Nightbox are set to open.
