The Chorus at The Cumberland

Last night, I went to a screening of The Chorus, a little French flick that's up for 2 Oscars this year. There was a live boys choir performing some of the music from the show before the film began, and having never before witnessed such a spectacle, I was completely mesmerized... yes the music was good, but I am talking about the dozens of characters up there!

Such passionate little 11 yr old faces, I couldn't help but match a few heads to a "baby Jack Black" or a "Ralphy look-a-like from The Simpsons" as they belted out the Oscar-nominated "Vois Sur Ton Chemin".

Oh right, the film. It pressed all the right buttons... although I am a bit of a sucker for France, prankster children, and harmony! It's a very charming film that both your date and your grammy will love! Set in 1949 France, an unemployed music teacher is hired as supervisor in a boarding school for troubled boys. Despite the presence of an evil school director, he introduces the boys to the magic of singing, which changes their lives forever. Aka tear-jerker supreme with shiver-inspiring harmonies. Opens at The Cumberland tonight!
