Yorkville Ice Fest 2012

Photos of the 2012 Yorkville Icefest

The seventh annual Bloor-Yorkville Icefest took place this weekend based around the not-so original theme of "Winter Wilderness." All the owls, wolves, and moose might have been a bit predictable as far as subject matter goes, but the craftsmanship and sculpting ability on display were anything but. A mind-boggling 30,000 pounds of ice was brought in for the competition, which was sponsored by various local businesses with proceeds going to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Local troupe Glisse On Ice put on a skating demonstration, but the real show-stopper was the chainsaw ice carving demonstration.

This might end up being one of the mildest winters of all time, but the sub-zero temperatures allowed everyone in attendance to get a little nostalgic for the colder seasons of the past. Just a little, though.
