Shad Is What's Good This CMW

Twisted my ankle (damn b-ball!) and attended only a few events this Canadian Music Week (CMW). Considering my condition, I decided to forego the larger events (Philosopher Kings, Bedouin Soundclash, Raekwon, etc) in order to support the little guys. I sort of regret doing that now (damn b-ball!).

I must say, however, that hip-hop represented lovely this year. Industry buzz on one Shad K continues to grow, no doubt helped by his solid set at Holy Joe's this weekend. Although his short set was almost the same as his opening gig at the recent Common concert, this dude has got it. His flow is like a Maestro Fresh Wes/k-os mash-up and with his penchant for picking up a guitar and jamming with his live band, crossover appeal is written all over the London, Ont. native.

I talked to an industry dude after the performance and the inside scoop is that Shad is definitely opening some eyes.
